Major spoilers for Netflix’s Cobra Kai season 5 finale are yet to arrive, so read at your own risk!
another season of cobra-kai It came and went, and it was definitely one for the books. Season 5 not only expanded on the stories of Johnny Lawrence, Daniel LaRusso and their students, but also continued the journey of evil sensei and businessman Terry Silver. Thomas Ian Griffith performed masterfully as the smiling antagonist and the actor seems to have enjoyed how the season has gone. On that note, he shared some thoughts on the nice encore from the end Karate boy Part III.
cobra-kai season 5 over with a wild night full of karate, in which the teens and adults of Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang made their last stand against Terry Silver and the titular dojo. The groundbreaking episode culminated in a fight between Daniel and Silver, in which the former emerged victorious. And LaRusso finished things off with his signature crane kick, a move that Silver ignored. Part III Years ago. Thomas Ian Griffith was pleased with the moment and recently weighed its meaning:
Oh, that’s the last full circle. I mean, for me, Thomas, it was just like the grand finale to this rivalry, you know, the way he taught him in his youth that he’s now trying to manipulate his life. To end this way seemed Shakespearean. I love that the writers are committed to bringing Terry down with his passion and his beliefs, and Ralph – mid-season Ralph got lost and Terry got to enjoy it, both mentally and physically. Eventually, with everything missing and the idea of Cobra Kai completely collapsed, he went nuts. This knocked him out of the game of him, so Daniel would use his martial arts form and philosophy to defeat Terry. And of course, the crane run is the last punctuation mark.
Many fans would likely agree with the actor’s opinion of the perfect callback. Seeing Daniel finally defeat the man who manipulated him was emotionally satisfying enough, but the character’s use of the crane kick made him even more impactful. Of course, some may wonder why Silver couldn’t dodge the move, as he’s not exactly subtle. Well, Thomas Ian Griffith also shared his opinion of him as he spoke Uproxx :
[Laughs] Well, we are in a fantastic and fantastic scenario and I think that is the best way to answer this question. It’s an absurd sight, I mean, it’s the life or death of a children’s karate tournament. But that’s the beauty and success of the show because you can say, “This is ridiculous, and I’m just here for the ride, and oh, they take it so seriously.”
Honestly, when you watch such a funny show, sometimes you just have to give up and throw that kind of thought out the window. I guess some people will look and ask, “Wait, shouldn’t Terry have seen this coming?” As for me at the time, I was like, “Wow, Daniel just kicked Silver with a glass Cobra Kai emblem!”
The events of the franchise’s third theatrical installment have taken on great significance in the last two seasons of Netflix’s sports soap opera. Season 5 really upped things (no pun intended). Mike Barnes reintroducing Sean Kanan and Robyn Lively’s Jessica Andrews. The 1989 film was panned by critics and audiences alike, but fans enjoyed seeing Mike, Jessica and Silver. Thanks to the show, too Views of Ralph Macchio Part III now a little different .
It’s certainly a testament to the efforts of the show’s creators: Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. As Schlossberg explained earlier, the goal of him is honor Karate Kid tradition even as the show expands , and the moment of the impact of the crane is a clear example. Producers will likely continue to provide these moments as the show progresses, and hopefully one or two more may still include Thomas Ian Griffith’s villainous villain.
