“On the right path to a peace”: the Egyptian president greets the peace plan for Gaza proposed by Donald Trump

A week after the presentation of Donald Trump of his peace plan for Gaza, articulated around twenty points, the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, praised the US initiative on Monday, October 6. The Head of State emphasized that “Paz” was the only possible form of “real normalization” in the region.

The Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi, welcomed the plan of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, on Monday, October 6 on Monday, October 6, while Hamas and Israel representatives must have indirect negotiations in Egypt in an exchange of hostages and prisoners, as well as a high fire.

“I can only express my praise and my gratitude to the US President Donald Trump for his initiative aimed at establishing a high fire in Gaza,” he said in a speech on the anniversary of the Israeli war in October 1973 (Kippur War).

“A high fire, the return of prisoners and detainees, the reconstruction of Gaza and the launch of a peaceful political process that leads to the establishment and recognition of the Palestinian State means that we are on the right path towards a lasting peace and stability,” he added.

From the Kippur War to Camp David, the lessons of history

In 1973, during the Kippur Jewish festival, Egypt and Syria had attacked Israel who had rejected the assault. Later, the war had led to the restitution of Sinai to the Egyptians.

In 1978, Israeli Prime Minister Menahem Begin and Egyptian President Anauar Al-Sadate signed, under the auspices of the United States, the Camp David agreements, a prelude to the first peace treaty between an Arab country and Israel, having finished the state of war between the two neighbors on March 26, 1979.

Abdel Fattah Sissi praised this treaty on Monday, qualifying it as the basis of future peace agreements in the region and stating that it must be reinforced.

“The peace imposed by force only generates conflicts, while the peace -based peace is what allows real normalization,” he said, and added to his Facebook account that this “peace” can only exist if it guarantees “the legitimate rights of the Palestinian brothers (…) for coexistence and peaceful cooperation among all people in the region.”

Egypt reaffirms its role as a mediator

Egypt played a key role as a mediator between Hamas and Israel, together with Qatar and the United States, but has also been warned several times against any attack against their national security, including the perspective of a massive massive displacement of the Palestinians to Egyptian territory.

“The Egyptian army is determined to fulfill its mission of protecting the country and preserving its borders, and does not fear the challenges,” added the Egyptian president.

Camp David agreements have made Egypt one of the main beneficiaries of US military aid. They also led to several decades of close collaboration between Egypt and Israel in terms of security.
