For more than a decade, World of Color at Disney California Adventure has been one of the most popular nightly shows at any Disney park. The combination of music, lights and water creates an enchanting experience. This past weekend, as part of Disneyland’s new 100 Years of Wonderland celebration commemorating 100 years of the Walt Disney Company’s existence, a new version of World of Color debuted. And the show is better than ever. Considering how the Disney Parks are constantly advancing in technology, it’s easy to assume that World of Color has seen a mechanical upgrade, but that hasn’t been the case.
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Jennifer Magill, a producer at Disneyland Live Entertainment. (opens in a new tab). and asked how the new show, World of Color – One, was able to bring Star Wars and the Avengers, as well as more traditional Disney and Pixar elements, to life in such a remarkable way. He told me that nothing in World of Color has changed in terms of how the show is made, whether it’s better than ever is up to the people. Magill explained…
You know, the interesting thing is that a lot of people say, ‘what are these new lights you have there, what are these new effects?’ In fact, all the tools we have are the tools we had. We just had an amazing design and creative team trying to use these assets in different ways to make it really new and cool.
World of Color has always been beautiful, with scenes from famous Disney films projected onto bodies of water, sometimes aided by elements of Pixar Pier in the background, but it’s actually hard to believe that’s not the case. used game. the images are much sharper than before, but apparently it all depends on people finding the best way to use the tools at their disposal.
It is difficult to call World of Color – One the best version of the program. Each has unique elements that distinguish it and make it special. But World of Color – One is undoubtedly the most attractive version of the program so far. This also marks the debut of Marvel and Star Wars characters in the series, and see the Millennium Falcon burst into hyperspace or some version of the Avengers ending The portal sequence wouldn’t be so exciting if it weren’t so beautiful.
World of Color: One joins Wonderous Journeys, Disneyland’s extravagant new fireworks display, as top-notch new additions to the park. With the recently opened Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, the whole complex feels like a whole new place. And the new one is not finished yet. Magic Happens, a runway show that lasted less than two weeks before the pandemic shutdown, will return in February and the new Mickey’s Toontown will debut in March.
