The next chapter of the Tomorrowverse has finally arrived, with legion of superheroes after last year led by Aldis Hodge Green Lantern: Beware of my power. In the latest of DC’s animated films, Meg Donnelly’s Supergirl travels to the 31st century to attend Legion Academy, and among her classmates is the Daxamite known as Mon-El, voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who is no stranger to this team of DC Comics superheroes. . Lowenthal, who these days also voices He-Man, previously voiced the legion of superheroes animated series that aired from 2006 to 2008, and the actor spoke to Gossipify about working on the new Legion movie versus his time on the show.
Yuri Lowenthal starred in legion of superheroes animated series featuring Superman and Kell-El, aka Superman-X, a clone of the Kryptonian created in the 41st century who was partially inspired by the Mon-El from the comics. A decade and a half after the show ended, Lowenthal now voices Mon-El in this Warner Bros. Home Entertainment release, and when I asked him what it was like to return to the Legion after a long time, he replied:
This is where I really fell in love with the Legion. I didn’t know the Legion of Super-Heroes very well when I started this program years ago, but it was so good to be back because I fell in love with… long live the Legion! And it was nice to go back and see it from a different perspective, and it reminded me of all the good times from that first show, which I still carry a burning torch for and I think it was early for her and I’m still enjoying watching. It’s great to be back because with Legion stories there are so many characters to draw that you always get something different and interesting and special. So it was really nice to come back. Of course, the most exciting thing about returning to a Legion story, especially for me now, is which Legionaries are they going to leave with? Who are we going to see? What weird powers?… It’s a different chemistry every time, so I was really excited to go back.
This legion of superheroes The animated film follows a few years after the team appeared in Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, but this time the Legion as a whole has a bigger role to play, with one of the other notable members including Brainiac 5, voiced by Harry Shum Jr. (who is looking to play a villain in an upcoming live-action superhero movies). And like most of the DC Universe animated original film line, legion of superheroes falls within PG-13 territory, while the legion of superheroes The animated series was obviously aimed at younger viewers as a Kids’ WB offering. As such, I was curious how Yuri Lowenthal felt about being involved in a Legion project that treated these characters with a more mature hand. Here’s what he had to say:
Yeah, although I’d say even going back to that kids show before, they were already dealing with a much higher level, I thought then. But yeah, this novel is definitely aimed at a different audience, though I think it might reach a couple. It’s always nice to tell strong stories, stories that appeal to both children and adults. I’ll just say Mon-El has a joke here that I was proud to say. I was very proud to be the only character, the only hero to have that kind of line, but I don’t want to spoil anything because it’s a lovely moment. Let’s just say he wouldn’t have gotten a line like that on a kids show.
Despite the legion of superheroes Superman-X from the animated series is not a direct adaptation of Mon-El, I was curious if Yuri Lowenthal got anything out of that performance when he was cast as Mon-El in the legion of superheroes Animation film. The actor explained why he opted out with the following:
I definitely stayed away because I brought some of what I naturally bring to the table and what I got from reading the script, I brought into the room. And then it was a joint effort to create the Mon-El that this story needed. So yeah, even though Kell-El was inspired by Mon-El, he definitely had more attitude and a much darker tone. And the Mon-El this story needed wasn’t that at all. He’s the big guy on campus, he’s a huge fan of the Superman family, probably a little too excited to meet Supergirl. And I think it was a very different energy that he brought, and that came from the script and working with the voice actor, Wes Gleason, and all the crew, to find the Mon-El that they need.
you will have to look legion of superheroes so you see how Mon-El specifically fits the picture, even if, as with Superman-X, there are darker elements to the character. legion of superheroes was directed by Jeff Wamester, who was particularly “excited” to take over this team, and Josie Campbell, who wrote the script, already has a good idea of what she’d like to see in a live-action film. legion of superheroes movie. The cast also includes Darren Criss, Matt Bomer, Jensen Ackles, Cynthia Hamidi, Gideon Adlon, Ely Henry, Robbie Daymond, Yuri Lowenthal, Eric Lopez, Darin De Pau, Benjamin Diskin, Victoria Grace, Jennifer Hale, Daisy Lightfoot and Zeno Robinson. . . .
legion of superheroes is available now to purchase digitally and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray. Once you’re done watching, stop your HBO Max subscription to grab previous episodes of the Tomorrowverse and lots of other DC content.
