Ashton Kutcher has been in the public consciousness for quite some time. The actor has become a household name while he starred in That show from the 70s in the late 1990s, he then hosted the MTV show punk, so far alongside Reese Witherspoon in your place or mine. now him Jobs The actor shares how he went from being a hobby programmer at the University of Iowa to being part of the cast of one of the most beloved sitcoms of the ’90s in two years.
Kutcher has gone through all kinds of phases in his career, but nothing has been quite as drastic as going from living in the Midwest as an aspiring geneticist to becoming a television star in just a few short years. The actor sat down with Barstool’s podcast, Tabouret Viva La, and explained how he managed to do it all himself. Kutcher recounted his humble beginnings in detail:
I went to school and studied biochemical engineering. I wanted to become a geneticist. I learned to program, computer programming, like 1996… and then I did all the high school plays, [and] high school play. I was in the drama society and entered drama competitions and stuff because I always wanted to be an actor, but I was in Iowa.
It’s incredibly difficult to build an acting career in a place like Iowa without the kind of resources that coastal cities have for budding movie stars. Fortunately, he was able to find his way. Exceptionally, the ranch Alum’s breakthrough came in the form of an unexpected visit from a model recruiter while at a café. Kutcher said:
I was in a bar [and this lady]- it was actually funny – she came up to me and said ‘how old are you?’ and I said ‘Wait a second, can I have a beer? Incredible: I’m 19 years old. And then she asked me, “Have you ever thought about becoming a model?” I said, “No, but I thought about being an actor.” And she said “Well that would be a good way in”
For Kutcher, it was definitely a good way into the business. After his modeling career took off, doors opened for the budding young actor. Small steps along the way quickly led him to become a successful salaried actor. The actor continued:
And then I started modeling, then enjoyed a college movie in New York, then booked a commercial for Pizza Hut. And then I flew to LA to rehearse for a show, then booked That ’70s Show the first few days I was there.
That show from the 70s It eventually became a huge hit and still finds a new audience who are discovering the show for the first time and loving it. The vintage teen sitcom premiered on Fox and ran for 8 seasons. Kutcher has had more than just a run in the series. The actor ended up meeting and then marrying her That show from the 70s co-star Mila Kunis.
The couple share two children together. Netflix recently released a spin-off series titled that the 90s show where the duo reprized their roles from the original series, giving back to the franchise that has done so much for them. Kutcher has come a long way since the sitcom and you can hear him talk about his career below:
