Jeopardy’s Ken Jennings defends himself against allegations that he gave a contestant a clue and spoke badly when reading a clue

Mayim Bialik prepares to return to daytime episodes of Risk! — months after Ken Jennings was originally set to hand over his co-host — and after the week the former super champ has spent behind the desk, the break might be a welcome one. Jennings was called out by fans for what he perceived as two major missteps in recent shows, and he’s taken to social media to defend himself against the allegations. let’s see what happened Risk! this week.

Did Ken Jennings offer a good lead to a candidate?

This can be a risky step Risk! For him host to add in your comment as you provide clues in the fast-paced quiz game. Fans certainly didn’t like it when Ken Jennings did it in the Feb. 7 episode. For the $400 clue in the “Literary Title Characters” category, it read: “Lord Henry tells you, ‘To regain my youth (I would do) anything’ … except exercise, get up early or be respectable .’ Attack! When Matthew Marcus called, Jennings recalled the champion’s affection for Oscar Wilde and commented, “He’s your favorite writer! before Marcus answers.

Although Matthew Marcus called Oscar Wilde’s character wrong, Ernest said instead of Dorian Gray many didn’t like that Ken Jennings added his 2 cents, with one viewer saying:

However, in response to another fan’s question as to why the host would provide such a benefit, Ken Jennings defended himself, Tweeter :

The final word on the track was “Wilde”. No one has added a tip.

That wasn’t the only problem, uh “Oscar Wilde”. I can see how this would be a big deal, but Ken Jennings pointed out that “Wilde” was part of the clue, not the answer. Sure, your additional comment may have triggered a memory that led to a correct answer, but that wasn’t the case here.

However, that wasn’t the only problem Risk! record holder he was forced to defend himself again this week.

Did Ken Jennings say something nasty while reading a clue?

On Feb. 8, the host came under fire again during the $800 cue in “The Business Structure” category, which was a visual cue. Ken Jennings read, “A building in Chicago is named after this product and, to reproduce an old commercial, it ‘absorbs’ it.” The track referenced Palmolive’s motto, “you suck at it”. ”, with a lot of grip Chirping to underline the exchanged words:

Ken Jennings blunder on Jeopardy tonight. In making the suggestion, he said “you accept it” in reference to Palmolive. Madge’s motto was, “You get drenched.” Even genes make mistakes 😊

The former champion replied again, albeit to a different viewer, emphasizing that the song was not meant to repeat the actual catchphrase. Ken Jennings wrote :

This is not an error or misread. The clue said it was a “play on” an old ad. The authors changed the tagline to link it to the video’s clue.

If Ken Jennings made a mistake, there’s no way Risk! the producers would have let it flow without recording a cover, but it’s easy enough to see how, with no fans having the track to read for themselves, the words “play” flew over viewers’ heads.

Either way, Ken Jennings’ hosting stint is coming to an end for now, as Mayim Bialik will take the reins on Monday February 20th. Initially, it was expected back to the newspaper Risk! Episodes early in the new year, but changes his shooting schedule call me cat prevented that from happening. Instead, Jennings continued racing the trails, which was apparently celebratory news for recent champion Jake DeArruda, who had a good strong opinions in the hospitality debate .
