Disney’s Bob Iger has revealed that Marvel’s Kevin Feige was almost fired once, because it didn’t happen

For people who closely follow Marvel Cinematic Universe news, Kevin Feige is a household name. While he is by no means solely responsible for the enormous success of this franchise, he has guided it from the very beginning following his years of producing early Marvel films such as x-men AND Spiderman. Still, apparently there was a time when Feige was almost fired from Marvel Studios, and Disney CEO Bob Iger has explained why that didn’t happen.

Bob Iger, who took over as CEO of Disney last November following the departure of Bob Chapek, reminded CNBC how in 2015 Ike Perlmutter, president and former CEO of Marvel Entertainment, who has been involved with the comic strip company since 1993, insisted on firing Kevin Feige, but Iger would not accept it. In the words of the executive:

We bought Marvel in 2009. I promised Ike the job that I would continue to run Marvel after that. Not forever, of course. But after. And in 2015 I was planning to fire Kevin Feige, who was running the Marvel studio, which was making the film at the time, and I thought it was a mistake and stepped in to prevent that from happening. I think Kevin is an incredibly talented executive, you know, Marvel’s track record speaks for itself. So I moved the Marvel movie operation from Ike to the movie studio under Alan Horn.

To provide context for those unfamiliar with how things were at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige reported to Ike Perlmutter at the outset, which means that if Marvel Studios was Feige’s son, in the end, Perlmutter took the decisions. However, during the Phase Two era, Feige was reportedly frustrated with the constraints Perlmutter placed on the MCU, including the franchise’s “creative committee,” which James Gunn said was the source of all the conflict he’d had. in the first. Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Feige reportedly even considered leaving Marvel and going to work for DC, and now we know things got so bad between him and Perlmutter that the latter was preparing to fire the former. .

It wasn’t something Bob Iger, who had been CEO of Disney for a decade at the time, wasn’t going to let go, as he was in awe of what Kevin Feige had accomplished with Marvel Studios. So instead, Iger had Marvel Studios absorbed by Walt Disney Studios, meaning Feige now reported directly to that division’s president, Alan Horn, instead of Ike Perlmutter. Iger added that Perlmutter “wasn’t happy” with the decision and thinks “unhappiness exists today.”

For 2019, in addition to remaining president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige was also named Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, Marvel Comics, Marvel Animation and the defunct Marvel Television. So while Ike Perlmutter is still a notable figure within the Marvel hierarchy, Feige wields a lot more power in the company these days, and that doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon, if at all. The MCU is bigger than ever, especially since, with many Marvel films on the way, the franchise now includes original shows that can be streamed with a Disney+ subscription.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Maniathe next Marvel movie, comes out on February 17th, while as far as TV is concerned, covert invasion It should arrive on Disney+ in the next few months. Keep an eye out for 24 News Bulletin for the biggest MCU updates.
