When Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania finally in theaters on February 17 we will be presented with a variant of Kang (Jonathan Majors), a conqueror who will be different from the version we saw in the Loki end of the season but maybe just one of many Kang that could give the Avengers a headache . But in preparing to bring this version of Kang to life on the big screen, Majors was looking for another contemporary classic villain who would cast a huge shadow over virtually every other comic book villain to follow in his wake: Heath Ledger. But since Jonathan Majors was pushing for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania this week he revealed a specific homage he worked on for Heath Ledger’s Joker, and it has to do with the scars that can be found on Kang’s face. Talk with Kevin McCarthy, co-host of ReelBlend , Majors has been coy about the origin of the scars on Kang’s face, saying it was intentional due to Ledger’s blurring. As the actor said:
You have to be specific. But I think that’s exactly what happened in THIS timeline. There is exactly what happened in THIS timeline. And exactly what happened in THIS timeline. And everything is different. Kind of like: people have seen the performance by now, so it’s only fair to refer to the Joker. Heath Ledger’s Joker, when he talks about his scars. The dynamic of Kang and Joker is completely different. But I really like the idea of how Heath had different origin stories for his scars. For Kang, yeah, me and the writers and Peyton (Reed) talked about how that could have happened and what it could have meant. But it’s a little secret that we’re building.
You know what’s not a secret? The fact that Heath Ledger plays the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s film The Black Knight it changed the way the industry viewed superhero movies. His method changed the concept of an actor’s approach to the genre and has led to more viewers taking those roles more seriously. There is a reason Joaquin Phoenix gave Ledger a lot of credit while winning his Oscar for playing the Joker jester.

This performance greatly influenced Jonathan Majors, who also explained to uh :
OK, first of all, it’s cool. He’s got this fucking jaw and he doesn’t care. He threw his body around. I was so full. And I said, ‘I’m going for it. I am inspired. It takes a lot, do you understand me? Be inspired. …The Dark Knight so vividly records the agnostic morality of survival and the discipline of kindness. Each stage of our life leads us to be the hero or villain of our story.

Majors told EW that she grew up in rough neighborhoods, but realized the people around her weren’t all that bad. There was no “black and white” when it came to innocence. There are moral gray areas in our society and the actor wanted to incorporate some of that deliberation into his work as an actor. He went on to explain:
The way I grew up, the people I grew up with, drug dealers, murderers, murderers, everyone just got out of jail. They all had ankle monitors. So I knew the complexity of the guys I grew up with. Yes, you did, but you did that too. And what I’ve seen in Heath, and in everything that he’s done, is: it’s this and that.
That’s a big part of why Majors is one of the most exciting actors we have to work with today. Even at record speeds like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania, is trying to figure out how to bring shadows of doubt to our concept of villain. Does Scott Lang agree with Kang on some aspects?
