Coronation of King Charles III: Buckingham Palace reveals the emblem of the event

Inspired by the King’s love for “the planet and his deep concern for nature,” this emblem was designed by former Apple designer Jony Ive.

Preparations accelerate as the coronation of King Carlos III approaches. Three months before the royal celebration, scheduled for May 6, Buckingham Palace unveiled the emblem of this event on Friday.

Inspired by the king’s love for “the planet and his deep concern for nature”, it was envisioned by former Apple designer Jony Ive. It represents a stylized reproduction of St Edward’s Crown, one of the most emblematic jewels of the British Crown, which will be used to crown Charles III during the planned ceremony in Westminster Abbey.

In this crown we find the symbol of the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the daffodil of Wales and the shamrock of Northern Ireland, all in the colors of the United Kingdom flag: red, white and blue.

“This emblem evokes the happiness and optimism of spring and celebrates the start of this new Carolingian era for the UK,” Jony Ive told Sky News.

An essential emblem

The emblem will be displayed across the country during celebrations from May 6 to 8, which will begin with Charles’ coronation in Westminster Abbey alongside Queen Camilla. As to platinum jubilee of queen elizabeth a year before, the event will be the reason for large festivals throughout the country and concerts.

The day after the royal ceremony, thousands of spectators will be able to attend a “coronation concert” organized at Windsor Castle and broadcast live on the BBC. The “coronation choir” will perform there, bringing together “amateur singers from across the UK, including refugee choirs, NHS choirs, LGBTQ+ choirs and hard of hearing choirs.” says the coronation site.

According to Buckingham Palace, the emblem will also be used for all official merchandise commemorating Charles’ coronation, as well as on social media.
