For more than three decades, the game show Danger! was played in the same format whether it was the syndicated day version, the Teen Tournament, the Tournament of Champions, etc. The game has always consisted of two rounds, with three daily doubles combined, then Final Jeopardy! However when Danger of celebrities! makes its debut in prime time on September 25, executive producer Michael Davies announced a major format change with the addition of Triple Jeopardy! round.
The game expansion was enacted to help fill in the extra half hour the show was given during prime time, the EP explained in a video posted by Danger! . Although similar series that include celebrity family feud, ferris wheel of celebritiesetc, just stream consecutive episodes to fill the 60 minutes, Danger of celebrities! was unable to do so due to what Michael Davies said was a late order for the show and the number of celebrity programs that were supposed to work. The swap also allowed Davies to engage in a short-term fun swap that could rebound if successful. The EP stated in the Danger inside! podcast:
I think one of the great things about these specials or these prime time episodes or even the fact that we can do some of our tournament weeks on the daily show is that we can wisely test a few things.
We have already seen Michael Davies implement aspects of the previous tournaments to be made big changes in this year’s Tournament of Champions which premieres on October 31, so this may not be the only time viewers see a Triple Jeopardy. segment (assuming Danger! amateurs do not pull out the groin ).
Adding a third tower also required changing the value of the clues, so Jeopardy! round (not “Single Jeopardy!” as Mayim Bialik learned ) will include questions from $ 100 to $ 500, with Double Jeopardy! $ 200 to $ 1,000 in Questions and Triple Jeopardy! with leads from $ 300 to $ 1,500. And yes, the third segment will feature three daily doubles.
Of course, adding another round won’t fill the extra 30 minutes, but the executive producer said having a little more wiggle room was another reason he didn’t want to fill time with two episodes. Michael Davis explained:
I didn’t want to do two half hours straight, because I wanted the shows to breathe a little more … and have a little more interaction with Mayim and our famous players.
They are celebrities after all, so obviously we want to see their personalities shine more than we would in a regular game, right? uh reported last month that among the famous faces that will face off in Danger of celebrities! They are Simu Liu, Constance Wu, Iliza Shlesinger, Ray Romano, Aisha Tyler, Patton Oswalt, Michael Cera, BJ Novak and Candace Parker. There will be more though, so we’ll have to tune into ABC to find out who.
Danger of celebrities! will premiere at 8pm ET on Sunday, September 25 with Mayim Bialik claims the hosting rights . Be sure to check ours TV program 2022 to see what other new and old shows are coming soon.
