how to watch

new episodes of The Last of Us airs Sunday nights on HBO at 9:00 p.m. ET and is available to stream on HBO Max.

We are ready for the first season of HBO The Last of Us Hence I am nostalgically envying all viewers who have not had the memorable experience of playing through the video game series by Neil Druckmann & Co. with all narrative differences already in place, but also because they will still be able to play everything for the first time. I imagine many of those minds were blown when Episode 5 unleashed the chaotic horror of our first live Bloater, as well as that anxiety. inducing a horde of runners that seemingly wiped out Kathleen’s entire resistance army. For those curious about the various threats, Druckman provided a brief overview of how TLoUEvolution of creatures works.

They last installment (opens in a new tab) From HBO’s The Last of Us podcast, which is the excellent official sequel to the TV show hosted by OG voice actor Joel Troy Baker, featured numerous conversations between Druckmann and co-creator Craig Mazin about Kathleen’s outcome, changes in Henry and Sam’s history, and (of course) the giant monster that ripped off Perry’s head. Considering that this monster looks very different from the other beasts described above, Druckmann touched on the thought process behind the variations, saying:

When we worked on the game, we envisioned the lifeline; all these stages of when someone gets infected and what might happen to them. So when you first get infected, there’s something called “Runner,” which is just a recent infection. In the show, that’s where you see the tendrils come out: Nana in Episode 1. Then, if you’ve survived long enough, the Cordyceps eventually pushes through your face, opening it, taking your eyes, your vision. And you become what’s called a “Clicker,” because now these infected are using echolocation to find their way.

I think we can all agree that one of the grossest moments of The Last of Us so far, whether the play is known or not, it happened in the seconds leading up to Tess’ sacrifice of Anna Torv, when she and a runner got close and touched the spin in each other’s tongues. [Shudders ad nauseum.] I don’t like knowing they are there even if they aren’t magnified on the screen.

Druckmann then talked about a particularly gruesome subsection of the Infected that Joel and Ellie encounter far more regularly in the game than on the TV show, though they’re definitely still around.

And then we say, there’s got to be people who, again, because this thing is eating you inside, eventually, when they know they’re going to die, they go underground, they like a dark place and they sit low. against a wall, settle into a corner and become part of the environment. [The infection] It grows all over the walls, ceiling and floor.

As dark as everything is inside The Last of Us, there’s something extremely dour about the tone of how many people in this universe would choose “sit against a wall” as the ideal way to die. I guess when most of the other luxuries are gone, it’s hard to care.

Druckmann then went to the Bloaters and apparently taunted other creatures that would be heading to the TV show in the future, unless he was just speaking in general terms. Even if it’s less fun to consider.

But there are some people who are so strong and fat that they can survive even longer, and those are the bloated ones. And that’s why you see this person so big and massive, and the strength of him. And he gets a lot scarier. As we go forward, there are these new types of infected.

Even if we no longer see evolutions of the Cordyceps menace in season 1, there’s another season on the way that will undoubtedly bring bigger and badder villains. The Last of Us It’s already shaping up to be one of the best shows around TV show 2023 and while it has a lot more to do with the chemistry of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie than the interconnected fungi-zoids they face, I’m positively happy to see all that Mazin and Druckmann infect with eyeballs. fans as the second one comes to an end.

With only a few episodes left in the season, fans can expect to get theirs broken hearts for Storm Reid’s Riley when it first appears, as well as what will likely be a grand finale, assuming it stays close to what the game has offered. Sundays can’t come fast enough.
