party downstairs is back! Fourteen years after the series premiere, he returns for the long-awaited season 3 on Starz, to the delight of fans. Luckily, nearly all of the original cast is back, which features Martin Starr as Roman DeBeers. While he might be a hilarious and beloved character, Roman sucks as a human being, and Starr has now weighed in on whether his 14-year-old character is still a jerk.
During party downstairsIn the first two seasons, pretentious “hard sci-fi” aficionado Roman has done some morally questionable things, including impersonating a rock star for sex, sabotaging his former writing partner out of jealousy, and constantly belittling fiery actor Kyle. who is basically a good guy and the antithesis of Roman. When I spoke to Martin Starr and Kyle himself, Ryan Hansen had this to say about where their characters are ten years after we last saw them:
“MartinStar: I feel like in the first two seasons there were little glimmers of hope that Roman could be a decent person, but it all fell apart. We’re going to go back to being a tired, decent human being who couldn’t get over the shitty circumstances that he’s in, that he was in 13 years ago.
Ryan Hansen: And Kyle, yeah, I feel you’re right, he was a really good guy. Quite dark, a little inside.
Martin Star: Yes, I mean some flashlights have a lot of battery and some have only a small battery.
Wonderful. In classic Roman fashion, Martin Starr answered the question by downplaying Kyle’s intelligence. To be fair, Ryan Hansen seems to agree that Kyle isn’t the brightest in the spotlight, despite him being a nice guy overall. Since Roman has been trying to make it as a screenwriter in Los Angeles for 14 years but still works at the titular caterer, Starr seems to think he’s as bitter as ever. He also confirmed that Roman is, in fact, a bad person, which I guess all fans have to accept.
the charm of party downstairs it’s always been that they’ve managed to assemble such an impressive cast of comedic talent. Starr and Hansen are joined by comedy big names like Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Adam Scott and Megan Mullally, who all have done a lot since the decade party downstairs hiatus. there are some too a new talent that you have probably already seen working for Party Down Catering, but unfortunately one of the show’s main stars Lizzy Caplan was unable to join them. Still, they wish him the best and hope she returns for a potential season four.
