Dame Helen Mirren is a legend. Whenever you can add it to your movie, jump at the chance. oscar award (per Queen) has ventured into all kinds of genres throughout his career, most recently as the mother of Jason Statham and Luke Evans In the Fast & Furious Multi-film franchise. That’s why a line of Shazam: Fury of the Gods The trailer always seemed a little out of place to us. There’s a moment Billy Batson (Zachary Levi) faces Mirren’s new villain, Hespera and claims she has a clear edge over this girl from Atlas because she’s “seen all the Fast and the Furious movies.”
Doesn’t mean you realize Hespera looks exactly like Queenie Shaw, character Helen Mirren PLAY in those Fast & Furious movie ?
The short answer, second Shazam: Fury of the Gods co-author Henry Gayden, is “Yes.” But he tells Gossipify in an exclusive interview that the joke was in the script before Mirren arrived. next DC movie and that was included as a tip to co-writer Chris Morgan, who came in Shazam: Fury of the Gods as a collaborator and also has a long tradition of writing Fast movie. As Gayden describes it, the prank went like this:
Originally…because, you know, Chris wrote a lot of Fast movies. So Chris came in and wrote about this movie, and I nodded at this line. He was removing the ceiling for (him). And then he started casting. And then Helen Mirren (she said yes). And then we were like, ‘Is this weird?’ (laughs) And then I said, ‘No. It was better.’ I will say, I think it’s better.
It’s a funny joke. And it’s strangely meta. But it wasn’t until Chris Morgan stepped in that I realized how connected the Shazam universe was to the Fast and Furious saga. because he told me:
Wouldn’t (Billy) recognize Djimon as one of our villains? That would be a better question, right?
Well it’s my fault I completely forgot that Djimon Hounsou played Mose Jakande furious 7 , a mercenary who allies with the Shaw family against Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel). So yes, Hespera might even recognize the wizard who gave Billy his powers. Could Shazam be part of the Fast and Furious series? Shazam: Fury of the Gods it’s all about the family and we know how much Diesel loves this concept.
The bottom line is that the joke was a harmless inside joke between two writers that suddenly took on new meaning after Helen Mirren agreed to play one of Atlas’ daughters. It is funny. All Shazam: Fury of the Gods It is funny. But you can see for yourself when it hits theaters on March 17th.
