Warning! Major spoilers from Netflix season 4, part 2 You lie down in front, then Read at your own risk!
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the second part of season 4 of You, which came out on Netflix last week, and I think it really was the craziest bunch of episodes the show has ever done. After the events of Part 1, it seemed that Joe had finally found his mate in Rhys, who admitted to being Eat the Rich Killer. However, Part 2 offered an even bigger twist and EP Sera Gamble talks about it. She also spoke about how the development has helped make this season the “toughest” season she and her team have ever faced for the show.
In episode 6 of season 4, it was revealed that author and mayoral candidate Rhys was actually hallucinating Joe. This means that Joe is the one who committed all the murders and kidnapped Marienne. Metaphorically, Rhys represented the dark side of the main character and. It was a crazy turn of events, to say the least, Sera Gamble tells the Hollywood reporter which has actually been planned for some time. However, that doesn’t mean the story was easy to decipher:
It was the toughest season by a mile. First, we made a whole thriller [with Part 1], and then, all the while, we’d go back to the beginning of each scene and follow what was going on as you find out what was really going on with Rhys. We had that in mind for several seasons. We started talking about it very early on. We didn’t commit to him this season until we knew we were doing the thriller, but we closely watched how crazy Joe was from season to season because we didn’t want him off the field.
One could argue You Season 4 is definitely different from the previous three as it requires some big creative changes. It took me a while to figure out what happened with Rhys, but in the end I like how it turned out. Also, the decision to bring Love and Beck back while Joe considered his next move only added to the intrigue. A story as complex as this is difficult to pull off, so kudos to Sera Gamble and co. to do the job!
Of course, we now have to ask what that means for the show going forward. After the twist, Joe and Kate moved to New York and the story of the former went viral. The fact that Joe also saw Rhys’ reflection indicates that the dark side of him is still a part of him. At this point, it’s unclear if there will be a fifth season, but this most recent finale has set up what could be a very exciting (and different) season.
It’s hard to deny that the finale works as a climax to the series, as it wraps up the stories of most of the characters that make up the series. You to discard. However, that still leaves the door open for more information. I’m sure this won’t be the last time we see this show, especially since it has proved to be a hit for Netflix. Plus, with how Sera Gamble and her co-workers manage to entertain, I expect more incredible twists to come in at least another season.
Relive this crazy killer twist You Season 4, which you can stream now with a Netflix subscription! And check out Netflix’s 2023 TV schedule to see what’s coming up for the streamer this year.
