In Finland, Brad Pitt exhibits sculptures for the first time

For the first time, the “largely self-taught” 58-year-old actor exhibited nine works, in a joint exhibition with British artist Thomas Houseago and Australian rocker Nick Cave.

After the actor, the sculptor? American star Brad Pitt quietly opened this weekend in Finland the first exhibition showing his sculptures. “It was exciting and wonderful,” Sarianne Soikkonen, curator of the Sara Hildén Art Museum in Tampere, the Nordic country’s third-largest city, told AFP.

For the first time, the 58-year-old ‘largely self-taught’ actor exhibited nine works, in a joint exhibition with renowned British artist Thomas Houseago, but also with another famous newcomer, Australian rock star Nick Cave, according to the museum.

Among the works of Brad Pitt, a large molded plaster panel representing a shooting or a series of silicone sculptures in the shape of a house, each one hit by bullets of different calibers, lodged in the plastic.

“Know where I went wrong in my relationships”

Much to the surprise of a Finland unaccustomed to visits from Hollywood stars, the actor made an appearance at the exhibition on Saturday, accompanied by Nick Cave. “For Nick and me, it’s a new world and a first performance. He just feels good,” the actor told Finnish television Yle on Saturday, who did not know he would be there.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s about introspection. It’s about knowing where I went wrong in my relationships, where I made a misstep,” the star shared.

The exhibition had only been announced as the first in the Nordic countries for the sculptor and painter Thomas Houseago, one of the figures of modern sculpture. The artist’s decision to invite his friends Brad Pitt and Nick Cave was made during the pandemic due to “events in (Thomas) Houseago’s personal life,” Sarianne Soikkonen told AFP.
