An appearance that surprised more than one spectator of the ceremony. And who has an explanation: the Ontario-born actress was part of the Canadian delegation, along with Olympic champion Mark Tewksbury and musician Gregory Charles.
A Commonwealth Privilege
Prime Ministers of Commonwealth constitutional monarchiesof which the Queen was sovereign, she had obtained a dispensation to attend the funeral with ten people of her choice.
The actress was chosen by Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister. Canada is one of the member countries of the Commonwealth along with Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka.
Elizabeth II was buried Monday night at Windsor Castle. Her remains were transferred, along with those of her husband Felipe, who died in 2021, to the George VI memorial in the castle’s St. George’s Chapel.
