From the very beginning, the Scream movies have thrived on their clever way of paying homage to some of the greatest horror movie franchises of all time and cry VI certainly no exceptions. However, the latest installment, and the second made by Radio Silence, is not just an homage to the classics, but to the previous five films in this now iconic series of (mostly) beloved slasher films. Here are all the subtle hints and direct appeals to Scream film franchise and some of the great horror movies that inspired it (plus some bizarre newer favorites) that we’ve gotten to figure out cry VIfrom the new configuration.
Scream VI shares the stage with Friday The 13th Part VIII
They Scream The films are often associated with Woodsboro, but have ventured beyond the fictional California city several times, including the fictional Windsor College. scream 2 and Hollywood in the third film. However, the latest episode brings the carnage to New York, which we can’t help but assume is an elaborate homage to Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, which also sees blood hitting the Big Apple thanks to psycho masked hockey. The intense wine scene of cry VI it even draws parallels to one of the most memorable scenes from the underdog chapter of the hit franchise where two surviving characters’ pleas for help in a restaurant aren’t taken seriously just before Jason Voorhees intervenes.
Meeting Ready or Not Cast
The film that probably allowed Radio Silence to take over Scream franchise is his great success, Ready or Notto which the collective of filmmakers soon pays tribute cry VI. The first victim is 2019 favorite horror-comedy heroine Samara Weaving as a film studies professor who provides a moving analysis of how classic slasher films reflect the culture of its time while unknowingly on the phone with its would-be killer. A little later, we see Weaving’s stepfather on the screen Ready or Not, Henry Czerny, as Samantha Carpenter’s (Melissa Barrera) therapist, but that’s not the extent of the references to this film. We’ll talk about it later.

the original Scream could even be considered a horror comedy for the many laughs it elicits, especially when an angry Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell, who is sadly not there cry VI) throws a right hook in the face of pushy reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). The new movie is reminiscent of that iconic scene where Gale, who also apparently wrote a book about Sam and Tara’s (Jenna Ortega) recent encounter with Ghostface, dodges Sam’s punch but doesn’t see her younger sister coming. It’s one of many fun examples of how the sequel subverts some of the franchise’s most common tropes.
The Ghostface Shrine
As we established at the top, cry VI is filled with references to its predecessors, most of which are in the same location: a shrine to the most famous murders of former Ghostface killers that Gale discovers in an abandoned movie theater. There is evidence from the crime scene (such as the rope that Drew Barrymore Scream character, Casey Becker, Hangman), drawings of some of the most notable victims and objects that once belonged to them, the costumes worn by previous killers and other related paraphernalia.
Kirby and Mindy Horror fans compatibility test
In the sanctuary, FBI agent Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere, repeating his scream 4 role) and fellow horror aficionado Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmine Savoy Brown) begin to question their genre preferences, such as which is better. Nightmare on Elm Street movie or so 2021 The candy man the requel surpasses the original. In the end, they turn out to be quite compatible as a horror fan.
Gale’s photo of her and Dewey
In a scene that takes place in Gale’s New York apartment, we learn that he still has a photo of her and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) still in place. The photo appears to be the same one the former Woodsboro sheriff kept at her home, seen in 2022. Scream. It is very touching to know that you still have a memory of your late ex-husband.
Subway Filled With Horror Icons
We also established above that in the typical case Scream fashion movie, cry VI is full of references to the classics, most of which are found in a subway car full of A-rated Halloween cosplayers. Many famous horror movie villains appear, including Michael Myers, some Jason Voorhees, and hell‘s Pinhead, and even some more recent icons, like Florence Pugh’s Dani mid summerPeachfuzz (the wolf mask worn by Mark Duplass in the found footage thriller, Creeping), and Tara’s favorite horror movie main character, the baboon. Finally, a passenger wears a wedding dress by Samara Weaving Ready or Notwhich is why the 2019 film’s costume designer, Avery Plewes, was also recreated for this film, as noted by Radio Silence on the ReelBlend podcast.
Kirby kills Ethan with a television
Suffer one of the craziest and most ingenious deaths in the world Scream cinematic history, despite some rumors questioning its fate and a botch scream 3 the storyline that would bring him back is Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard). He was crushed and electrocuted by a television that Sidney threw at his head shortly after learning that he was one of the original Ghostface killers. With credits to Kirby, one of the cry VIvillains by Ethan Landry (Avatar: the path of water actor Jack Champion), dies in exactly the same way (except by electrocution) and with the exact same TV in Ghostface Sanctuary.
“Red Right Hand” plays several times
Everything is fine Scream The film (excluding the fourth for copyright reasons, according to ScreenRant) features the eerie drop of a needle from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ “Red Right Hand,” which is also the soundtrack to Peaky Blinders on Netflix. The song’s repeated use in the franchise is mentioned in cry VI for the song’s repeated use in the final episode. We hear it first when Mindy gives the required lesson in horror movie rules and again when Sam and Tara rest after their final showdown with the new Ghostface.
Lots of parallels to Scream 2
cry VI He’s turned things around by revealing three killers: Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney) and his children, Ethan and Quinn (Liana Liberator), but he’s sticking to the rules of following a sequel by borrowing material from scream 2. Bailey’s revenge plan against Sam for killing his son, Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid), involves recruiting film students (including Tony Revolori) before killing them, similar to Mrs. Loomis’ (Laurie Metcalf) revenge plan against Sidney for killing his son. Billy (Skeet Ulrich) must recruit film student Mickey (Timothy Olyphant) before killing him. Other references to the 1997 sequel include following characters surviving college, Tara considering committing to Omega Beta Zeta, and Sam teasing Richie at the Bailey mirroring Sidney’s Billy taunts Mrs. Loomis.
