Warning: SPOILERS for mason perry “Chapter 10” is ahead!
Enter the mason perry Before Season 2, one of the important things that fans need to remember from Season 1 was that Paul Drake, played by Chris Chalk, had resigned from the Los Angeles Police Department and after Emily Dodson agreed to become the detective deprived of the case. law office of the main character. However, following the decision by Matthew Rhys’ Perry and Juliet Rylance’s Della Street to take on more civil matters, Paul’s services were not needed within the firm, forcing him to seek employment elsewhere. One of those other concerts has now produced unintended consequences, which are part of the complications that live viewers and HBO Max subscribers will see Paul face in his journey in season two.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Chris Chalk ahead of tonight’s conference. mason perry episode, in which Paul Drake learned that Melvin Perkins man Pete Strickland (played by Shea Whigham) hired him to investigate due to concerns from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office that someone was trying to fire him, was arrested for loan usurpation, extortion, smuggling and tax evasion. With Perkins pouring money from his illegal activities in Los Angeles’ African-American community, Drake feels guilty for unknowingly providing information that the authorities used to arrest Perkins, and deals with it as it implicates him in the brothers’ relationship. . I asked Chalk how important it was for Paul to go through such a personal struggle in season 2 as well as being involved in the main investigation, and he said:
One, is it important because what is it for? We have to be right to bring all these people back, and they can’t be the same and they have to go on a journey and we have to deconstruct to rebuild. So there’s that, but I personally just wanted to see what Michael [Begler] I’ve never heard, I told Tim Van Patten, who was the EP and director of season 1, at the end of the season he said, ‘Great job, good job everyone. And I said, ‘Yeah, but what if Perry were to defend black people?’ Let’s keep it complicated. It’s still a gap in the 1930s, we can’t pretend it’s from 2023. So I’m always looking for ways to complicate and thicken, if that’s a word, our relationships and our travels, and I love this season as I’ve been involved with my family, or with Clara’s family, because it puts enormous pressure on Paul, who used to be the big boss, and is now looking for a job at the newspaper while being harassed by his brother-in-law.
It’s abundantly clear that Paul Drake is feeling betrayed after learning that the DA’s office has taken Melvin Perkins since it happened after he provided the footage and information. With the threat that Perkins is blatantly untrue, Drake again has trust issues working with Perry and Della Street, as Pete Strickland, one of Perry’s closest friends, “betrayed” him, even though Perry had no idea. Pete’s true identity. intentions when he recommended Paul for the job. Luckily, Paul and Perry were able to get back on track when they snuck onto a casino boat to do some research on the late Brooks McCutcheon, who was killed at the end of “Chapter Nine,” and Raphael. and Mateo Gallardo are accused of committing the murder. So there’s all of that, plus Paul dealing with pressure from his family, especially his brother-in-law Mo.
As already mentioned, mason perry Season 2 will also see Paul Drake investigating matters without being able to display an LAPD badge. I was curious to see how Chris Chalk (who also played Lucius Fox in Gotham City) to explore the character who continues to work in earnest, but now outside a structured system. The actor replied:
I think it’s a lot of fun to see who Paul is when the rules aren’t the same, when all the rules you were told as a kid turn out to be wrong and everyone benefits from it, how deep does Paul dive? in this pot of grey. If it was black and white before, I think Paul is really starting to come to grips with what gray is and what it takes to feed a family, and I find it incredibly interesting to see Paul break down… It’s always exciting to be inside a character that doesn’t he has no idea what comes next and he has no power, because it drives him crazy. And to find that incredibly stoic guy from season 1 suddenly becomes a little more animalistic is very exciting.
mason perryThe long-awaited return of comes just over two and a half years after the end of the first season, with Jack Amiel and Michael Begler taking over as showrunners for the second season. Chris Chalk, Matthew Rhys and Juliet Rylance join the main cast this season of Justin Kirk reprising Hamilton Burger, Diarra Kilpatrick reprising Clara Drake, Eric Lange reprising Gene Holcomb and Katherine Waterston as Ginny Aimes, the teacher of Teddy Mason who was introduced in “Chapter Ten” of the series produced by Robert Downey.
