Since the release of John Wick: Chapter 2 in 2017, director Chad Stahelski’s action series set a pattern. We had to wait a few more years for the third sequel, but now John Wick: Chapter 4 is here and set another franchise record (third of its kind in March after Michael B. John Wick: Chapter 4 has the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated film since 2020
John Wick: Chapter 4 he’s been racking up rumors for weeks. Social media reactions went online earlier this month to promote the epic action film, and the positive vibes only got stronger as the reviews poured in following the film’s premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. the highest Rotten Tomatoes rating of any title in the series, and is now a certified blockbuster.
In just three days in theaters, John Wick: Chapter 4 earned $73.5 million, which is more than the original John Wick made during its entire domestic run, and only about $19 million less than that John Wick: Chapter 2 produced in the same area. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum it previously held the box office record for the series, having earned $56.8 million from its Friday-to-Sunday premiere and $171 million for its entire U.S. run in Canada, but the 2023 follow-up has already surpassed that first climax and not it will be long before it does the same with the second one.
What’s even more impressive about the numbers is how they exceeded even the most recent expectations. Late last week, Deadline reported that forecasters had estimated it John Wick: Chapter 4Ticket sales would end up in the $65 million to $70 million range, but demand continued to soar throughout the weekend.
What is perhaps the most exciting thing John Wick: Chapter 4The performance of is the kind of harmony that is created in the world of cinema, filled with so much love. Too often critics and audiences are on different wavelengths when it comes to new releases, but the opposite is at play right now. 95% of critics rate the film on Rotten Tomatoes as being reflected in a 95% viewership rating, and to top it all off, CinemaScore polls gave the blockbuster an “A” grade.
Everyone, everywhere enjoys just about everything Keanu Reeves’ film has to offer (and what makes it all the more amazing is the fact that we’re talking about a close to three-hour action flick).
This will result in John Wick: Chapter 4 demonstrate strong legs in the coming weeks? I think it’s fair to say yes. There are some big trending titles coming out in the coming weeks, including John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic The Super Mario Bros movie. – but both films are aimed at a younger audience. If it doesn’t lose its box office crown next weekend, it certainly will next weekend, but I suspect it can stay in the Top 5 for most of April as a show worthy of the big screen experience.
Things haven’t exactly gone well for Shazam! Fury Of The Gods in its second weekend
When a movie makes headlines with disappointing box office numbers its first weekend, it usually doesn’t do well for its second weekend… and David F. Sandberg. Shazam! fury of the gods did not dispute the logic of this model. The DC Studios launch, which was made on a $125 million budget (per Variety), got a lot of “off” reactions last Sunday when it was revealed it had grossed just $30.5 million in the market inside, and things have not improved. seven days later.
While not as bad as the weekend, the 70% drop suffered by Peyton Reed Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania last month, Numbers reported it Shazam! fury of the gods has seen its ticket sales drop by 68% since its debut. The superhero blockbuster managed to drop just one spot in the charts, dropping from first to second, but failed to make eight figures and grossed just $9.7 million.
So far, the film starring Zachary Levi, Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler has yet to recoup its production budget, which doesn’t include advertising and marketing expenses. Shazam! fury of the gods grossed $46.3 million domestically and $56.1 million overseas, with a total worldwide gross of $102.4 million. It probably goes without saying that there’s very little chance of the series’ canon continuing in the rebooted DC Universe that’s in the works by new DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
