Kevin Hart went from comedian to mainstream Hollywood actor in what seems like the blink of an eye. Of course, he is first and foremost a comedian whose films have a certain silliness that critics generally don’t appreciate. You’d think he might depress him, but it turns out he pays no such attention, and there’s a pretty legitimate reason for that.
Kevin Hart’s 2020 series, Hart dies, it has 80% on rotten tomatoes. I caught up with the comic to talk about the sequel season titled fantasy, die hart 2: die hartter, which will arrive on March 31 on Roku. When I mentioned the relatively high Rotten Tomatoes rating, Hart had this to say:
You know, I don’t watch any of this, to be honest with you. I’ve never paid attention to it. I don’t think he’s had good scores or bad tomatoes or anything in my career, so I don’t want that. Don’t start now. I mean, I did pretty good without it, so don’t change anything now and start giving me amazing scores. Keep it to yourself! I’ll let the audience give me the scores. These are the reviews I want. Not the critics. I don’t want those.
He makes a valid point here. I mean, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. His latest film personal time, is a perfect example. The reviews were brutal. and 6% off rotten tomatoes. Yes, you read correctly; not 60%, but 6%. However, does this stop the film from ranking #1 on Netflix? NO. Kevin Hart even praised Netflix and showed his utmost appreciation for My time hit. Thing is, Hart’s career is something to behold, and if terrible critical reviews are currently part of that formula, so be it. In an effort not to be clingy, I’ll let you Google his net worth and we can all agree that good reviews can be a worthy sacrifice.
Importantly, Hart later clarified that he has no hard feelings against critics, stating that “his job is to criticize.” After all, she’s proven he can joke at her expense and finds things like being the funny viral meme theme . given how much shadow that he casts on his friend and frequent collaborator Dwayne Johnson it is important that he can catch it and spread it.
Speaking of Dwayne Johnson, the two are trying to get the ball rolling over another Jumanji movie . Hart is also working on a romantic comedy with Keke Palmer and is happy to start over Planes, trains and cars with Will Smith. And then, let’s not forget that he also always prepares cabaret shows. The thing is, her Rotten Tomatoes score of 6% was just last year, and her career has shown no signs of slowing down. If I were him, I probably wouldn’t even pay attention to the reviews.
