Chicago Fire showrunners open sequel to Severide’s dangerous story and this cameo (spoiler) in season 11 premiere

Spoilers ahead of the season 11 premiere of Chicago firecalled “Hold on”.

Chicago fire returned to pick up where season 10 left off with a lot of suspense , and Stella and Severide’s honeymoon was cut short in the worst possible way. After Severide made enemies towards the end of last season, they decided exploded on a happy couple’s wedding night , and it was mainly thanks to Stellaride’s reflexes and bravery that both survived long enough for the authorities to arrive. The bad guys are behind bars, but second Stoplight showrunner, this dangerous story isn’t over, and there’s a reason why the Chicago police a cameo happened.

While Severide was relieved that he and his new bride had survived the immediate danger of the attack on their wedding night, he was stressed out for the rest of the episode when the corrupt cop who allowed this to happen was not identified. He went to Major Pearce at the CPD for help and the policeman who had been used for an investigation was burned.

It was a difficult episode for the Lieutenant of Fire Brigade 51, but he finally told Stella how sorry he was that her decision to testify had put her life in danger. When showrunners Derek Haas and Andrea Newman spoke to Gossipify about the season 11 premiere, I noticed that it was great to see Severide communicate with Stella in the episode, which may not have been the case not long ago.

Andrea Newman agrees with what he called Severide’s “growth”, sharing that they “talked about it a lot” as part of monitoring his character’s development. Asked if “Hold On Tight” was the end of this CPD storyline for Taylor Kinney’s character, Derek Haas explained:

No, this is just the beginning of the story, because there is a question hanging over the episode, which was, how did the guy with the knife get into court last year when Severide was around? Well, obviously he had help, as you’ll find out in this episode, but we don’t know who that cop is.

Severide’s most recent near-death experience prior to the season 11 premiere took place in an unlikely place: a court of law. Their fight ended with Severide punching his attacker through a window in a clear case of self-defense, but it was never explained how his attacker caught up with him in that building while he was armed. As Derek Haas pointed out, he got help and not all questions were answered about “Hold On Tight”. The co-showrunner explained:

It looks like the police are tightening ranks around this guy, and it’s not just something that will be explored in an episode. We will continue like this.

Severide managed to get away to some degree in the episode after enlisting the help of Commander Pearce and managing to get over her contact with the CPD who wasn’t giving up ground, but didn’t quite understand it. For One Chicago fans who are watching Chicago policethe morally gray use of criminal informants and sometimes letting bad things happen so they can focus on the worst big picture is nothing new.

But Kelly Severide isn’t Hank Voight, and believing the CPD would ultimately bring this corrupt cop to justice wasn’t enough for her. First you approached a familiar face by contacting him Chicago police‘s Detective Upton (played by Tracy Spiridakos), who also appeared at the end of season 10 to help catch the bad guys. If you thought Upton was going to pull the strings and call the cop to help him, you were wrong. Andrea Newman explained the decision to bring Upton:

We included Upton in this for a reason, as he was dealing with the police informant element last season. From the beginning, it is to her that Severide addresses himself. We love these intersecting worlds and this is an important part of that.

Will Severide’s ongoing story after his wedding night attack leads to multiple appearances Chicago police characters? Only time will tell on this front, although it may not be long before Jesse Lee Soffer shows up as Detective Halstead. The actor leaves One Chicago part of season 10 of Chicago police StoplightThe season 11 premiere also included many developments for other characters, including a new challenge for Stella as a lieutenant and bad news for Brettsey shippers .

See what happens next Chicago fire with new episodes Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC, between Chicago Mediterranean Season 8 (which is back with news for Will and Hannah) at 8pm and increasingly “messy” (like showrunner Gwen Sigan described it ) Chicago police with its new theme at 22:00 in TV program 2022 .
