After many years with no clear future, beverly hills police 4 it’s really happening. Produced by Netflix with the title Beverly Hills Police: Axel FoleyThe film went into production last month, and filming began with news that Eddie Murphy would be joining the cast along with franchise newcomers Taylour Paige and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
These are exciting names, but part of the Legacyquel trend is to include a significant number of actors from the original franchise, and this next project doesn’t disappoint. Variety now reports that four more actors than the original beverly hills police signed for the new film, notably Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot.
The entire cast was in the 1984 original and at least one early sequel, with Reinhold being the only one besides Eddie Murphy to appear in every episode of the police-focused comedy series. The Fast times at Ridgemont High The star will reprise the role of Billy Rosewood, while Ashton, Pinchot and Reiser will play the sergeant. Serge Art Gallery salesman John Taggart and Axel’s former Detroit partner Jeffrey Friedman.
This will actually be the second time Judge Reinhold and Bronson Pinchot bring back their characters in the past few years. In 2013 the two were also part of the beverly hills police TV Reboot developed by The shield creator Shawn Ryan. A pilot was produced with Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley who apparently handed the reins of the franchise to his son, Brandon T. Jackson’s Aaron Foley, but the series was not resumed.
Netflix acquired the rights to beverly hills police in 2019 (the year of the release of Eddie Murphy’s hit Dolemite is my name), and the streaming service has since tried to launch the fourth installment in the series. Director Mark Molloy will make his directorial debut with Beverly Hills Police: Axel Foleyworking on a script by Josh Appelbaum, Will Beall and André Nemec.
Plot details are currently unknown. beverly hills police 4, but this news certainly arouses curiosity about the story. A defining aspect of legacy sequels is a project’s ability to bring characters back to life in a natural and organic way without the whole company feeling obligated, and that’s not necessarily an easy task. It is unclear how this project in development will turn out and it will be interesting to see what approach the film takes.
Plans for the release date have yet to be announced Beverly Hills Police: Axel Foley, but that’s no surprise for an upcoming Netflix movie. That said, with production already underway, it seems almost guaranteed that the film will be released in 2023.
