Chicago fire viewers waited nearly four months to find out what would happen after season 10 ended will be the “prices paid” in this story ), Brettsey fans may just wonder what the future holds (or not) for Brett and Casey. Showrunners Andrea Newman and Derek Haas previewed the answers along the way and how soon fans will receive them.
While Stellaride’s wedding was a happy affair once they were finally able to get married in the spring, Brett was on the verge of tears when she and Casey (with Jesse Spencer back for the first time since episode 200) had to face the reality that her life and work are in Chicago while Casey returns to Portland. She wanted to know how long they could last with so much distance between them and so long apart; Casey had no answer other than that they were “together tonight”.
It seemed they were on the verge of breaking but they didn’t want to make it official when they were at the wedding of two of their best friends, but the conversation was rather ambiguous. when Chicago fire Showrunners Andrea Newman and Derek Haas spoke to Gossipify, asking about Brettsey’s status and how soon fans can expect to see the answers. Newman shared:
Long distance relationships are very painful and difficult. This love between them, the bond between them, is so deep that they both thought they could make it work, but they both lead very different lives. It will definitely go against the former and difficult decisions have to be made.
For better or for worse, the “tough decisions” that need to be made will obviously emerge when Season 11 premieres on September 21st! There is no news of Jesse Spencer’s return, so it’s possible that tough conversations are phone calls with fans who only hear Brett’s side of the conversation.
It was like this Stoplight was able to provide updates on their relationship during the season 10 gap between Casey’s departure and Brett’s decision to spend a longer period of time in Oregon with it, and it might work again. It’s uncertain if their relationship will work out after Brett’s results in the season 10 finale.
Derek Haas explained his thoughts on Brettsey’s romance and long distance challenges:
I think they both walked a long distance with the best of intentions, love and all and you go for these marathons and mile one and mile two doesn’t seem like it’s going to be too much. But then head winds come and it gets harder and harder as you go along.
As someone who thought Brett and Casey’s relationship was doomed as soon as news of Jesse Spencer’s departure broke, I have to say that the two have really been working on their long-distance romance for a long time. Fans will have to tune in to the season 11 premiere to see what happens with the tough decisions the two characters have to make (even if Casey plays her off-screen), but it looks like Brett is back to stay. This is definitely good news for Violet afterwards his experiences with Emma last season!
While the answers about Brettsey’s future will come in the season 11 premiere, it’s likely not the storyline that will be immediately addressed in the episode. The suspense saw a van stop in the secluded cabin where Severide and Kidd, unwittingly happy, were ready to enjoy their wedding night. In light of the mess Severide has ended up in with some really bad people, it seems like a safe bet that season 11 has an exciting start.
