Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Star Trek: Picard Season 3 episode “Vox”. Read at your own risk!
Star Trek: Picard set the stage for what should be an epic finale that rivals even the most famous TNG extension movie, but it comes at a cost. Fans have finally had their long awaited moment of seven out of nine receiving her flowers as a senior member of Starfleet…sadly, in the most tragic way possible. With your last breath, Captain Liam Shaw said Commander Seven was now the captain of the USS Titan.
Despite the satisfaction felt in seeing the Seven of Nine finally become captain of Starfleet, albeit officially for now, I could not help but mourn the loss of Todd StashwickBeloved Shaw. I asked jeri ryan in an interview if the moment was just as bittersweet for her, especially after sharing so many scenes with Stashwick Star Trek: Picard Season 3, and got his thoughts on the matter:
Of course it was. I’ve loved working with Todd as an actor and as a friend and from day one I’ve said [Shaw] he was my favorite character. I liked it. I liked the way he played it. I loved the way it was written. I just thought it was brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. So yes. It was a very emotional scene for all of us for many reasons.
Thanks to a chain of command and Captain Shaw’s last words, the Seven of Nine is now acting captain of the USS Titan. Of course, due to the recent discovery borg plot that compromised the youngest crew of the Titan and many other ships in the fleet, Seven will have a lot of work for her trying to regain control of the ship. She is Raffi remained in place while Picard and his team met the D Company.
And while Starfleet Command may not officially approve her promotion, Jeri Ryan confirmed that she’s just as excited as fans are for it to happen. She the actress added that she had to sit with that realization for a while, even long before the season officially started filming:
Sponge [Matalas] he told me that before we started shooting, we all had our one-on-one meetings and heard what the plan was for all of our characters. Yes, this is something I’ve sat on for a long time.
Assuming Seven of Nine survives to the end of Star Trek: Picard, the stage is set for her to have many adventures to come as captain of her own Starfleet vessel. Of course, the fans and cast of picardy They’re still pushing for a continuation of the series, but there’s still no guarantee that future adventures will happen for Seven.
As it stands, viewers have seen Seven of Nine change quite a bit since they last saw it Star Trek: Traveler (opens in a new tab). I asked Jeri Ryan what he thought of the whole Seven thing now that it was done. picardywhat if he could have predicted where he would end up in season three. He shared his honest thoughts on everything:
I’m excited. I don’t think I would have predicted this season’s story. So that was kind of a surprise for me. I love. I think it’s phenomenal and it fits the character perfectly and it’s all great, but it was kind of surprising to me. …I say I sound like a broken record when I say that, but this character has been a great gift from the beginning as an actor. He goes back to, you know, 20 years ago on Voyager when he was created. And the last three years of building its development and story have been a pleasure. He really has.
Jeri Ryan has come a long way since it took her several glasses of champagne to convince herself to come back as Seven of Nine in the first place. Now, that decision has led to a fantastic story arc for the former Borg that has carried the Fenris Rangers character to his current position in Starfleet. It’s even nicer to know that Ryan enjoyed the trip as much as the fans and his time Star Trek: Picard.
If you have a Paramount+ membership, make sure you’re ready for the series finale of Star Trek: Picard Thursday 20 April. It sounds like a truly epic finale awaits us, albeit based on what we hear michael dorit may not be the end of the line for these beloved characters.
