The following story will contain some loose spoilers for the current season. the Mandalorianyou may want to read another great story on our site if you haven’t seen some of the more recent episodes yet.
Although every season of the Mandalorian TO a great story arc which connects the episodes, the Star Wars series with which it is available your Disney+ subscription It’s usually fine for a standalone episode filled with Star Wars oddities, allowing the creators to showcase some of their creativity and entertain the audience. And that best describes episode 6 of season 3 of the Mandalorianwho got lost on the planet Plazir-15, by which he is dominated some A+ cameos in the form of Jack Black and Lizzo. Cameos are not new to The Mandalorian. Indeed, in this very episode, Back to the Future royalty Christopher Lloyd appeared as head of the Planetary Security Office. But how do these celebrities get the chance to appear in a mandalorian episode?
During the recent celebration of Star Wars held on the outskirts of London, Gossipify had the opportunity to speak with Jon Favreau, the driving force behind the Mandalorian. And while he didn’t direct this recent installment of the Disney+ series, he did tell us how Jack Black and Lizzo ended up playing Captain Bomber and the Duchess in the episode now known as “Guns. For Hire.” The way Favreau explained it to us:
The unifying thing is[that]we love working with fans and people who love being on set. … He brings a great energy to the set, when people feel it. … I found out that Jack Black and Lizzo were fans – they were constantly posting on social media. They had no connection to the show. So when I was thinking about an episode set on this planet with an eccentric royal couple feeling like fish out of water after a visit from our Mandalorians, we thought, “Let’s give it a try.” Let’s get closer. But it was their enthusiasm for which they had been so vocal that attracted us to them, and not necessarily their prominence in pop culture. More important is how they connected, with the case of Jack Black singing the song and getting people to notice us. And with Lizzo, her bond with Grogu and how she dressed. Our hope was that when they hit set there would be excitement, not just to be there but to be able to dress up and be a part of it. It was really satisfying. And that’s how, in the end, everything fell into place.
Sometimes that’s all it takes, folks. Post your love of Star Wars on social media and writer/director/producer Jon Favreau can call you for a guest spot in a future episode . It’s that easy. There is a joke that many gods mandalorian the episodes follow a very simple formula where Mando (Pedro Pascal) arrives at a foreign destination , you have to complete a mission, but you can’t acquire what you need until you help the citizens solve a problem. It’s very similar to the structure of Jack Black and Lizzo’s episode, so it fits perfectly into the format of a traditional episode mandalorian season.
There was backlash online after the issue surfaced on Disney+, where one “fan” objected to the celebrity casting by Jack Black and Lizzo, stating that it was a jump-a-shark moment that somehow meant Star Wars was no longer for nerds. My friend, have you heard from Tenacious D? Black might just be the nerdiest celebrity on this planet or any other. See my boy JB in tViral Star Wars tiktok which helped him land the role!

Of course, that level of fandom scrutiny hasn’t held up in the Star Wars universe, and hopefully now Favreau’s explanation of the duo’s casting WHY their fandom will change the narrative. There are many upcoming Star Wars projects up-and-coming and countless celebrities who grew up loving this galaxy far, far away. So it’s best to know who a true fan is before you start tagging famous faces or pretend Star Wars isn’t for nerds anymore.
