The royal family pays tribute to Elizabeth II who would have turned 97 on April 21

To mark the British monarch’s first anniversary since her death on September 8, the Royal Family shared a photo of the Queen, along with a tribute.

Queen Elizabeth II would have celebrated her 97th birthday this Friday. On the occasion of the date, the royal family paid tribute to the monarch on her first birthday since her death on September 8, 2022.

On social media, King Charles III and Queen Camilla shared a photo of the former British sovereign, dressed in a pale blue suit and hat and holding a bouquet of flowers in her hand.

This snapshot was taken during a visit by the Queen in June 2022 for ‘Easter Week’, a traditional ceremony to hand over the keys to the city of Edinburgh.

“Today we commemorate the incredible life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her 97th birthday,” the caption reads.

“When Her Majesty was born in April 1926, Princess Elizabeth and her family did not expect her to become Queen. […] She is now Britain’s longest-reigning monarch and the only monarch in history to have celebrated a Platinum Jubilee,” the royal captioned the photo.

This tribute comes three weeks before the coronation of King Carlos III. Hosted at Westminster Abbey, this royal event will take place on May 6, almost 70 years after Elizabeth II’s coronation on June 2, 1953.
