Prince William reveals never-before-seen photo of his grandmother Elizabeth II for her birthday

To mark Elizabeth II’s birthday, the Prince of Wales posted a photo of the Queen surrounded by her youngest grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus Archie and Lilibet.

Marking what should have been, this April 21, Elizabeth II’s 97th birthday, Prince of Wales William paid tribute to his grandmother by posting a new unpublished photo of the monarch on Twitter.

In this photo, taken by the Princess of Wales, Kate, last summer, the sovereign is surrounded by her youngest grandchildren, Lady Louise Windsor and James (the children of Edward, the Queen’s youngest son) and her great-grandchildren: Savannah and Isla. Phillips, Mia, Lena and Lucas Tindall (grandchildren of Princess Anne), as well as Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, grandchildren of Charles. Missing from the photo are Archie and Lilibet, the Queen’s youngest great-grandchildren, children of Harry and Meghan.

“Constant and unwavering presence”

Earlier today, King Charles III and his wife Camilla also sent a tribute to Elizabeth II to mark the late monarch’s birthday on September 8, 2022.

On social networks, the royal couple shared a snapshot of the former British sovereign, taken during a visit in June 2022 on the occasion of “Easter”, the traditional ceremony of handing over the keys to the city of Edinburgh.

“Today we commemorate the incredible life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her 97th birthday,” the caption reads.

Sarah Ferguson, ex-wife of Prince Andrew and ex-daughter-in-law of Elizabeth II, also praised the Queen’s “constant and unwavering presence” “for more than 70 years.” “She was a wonderful mother-in-law, friend and advisor. I miss her more than words can express,” the Duchess of York added on Instagram.

This tribute comes three weeks before the coronation of King Carlos III. Hosted at Westminster Abbey, this royal event will take place on May 6, almost 70 years after Elizabeth II’s coronation on June 2, 1953.
