There seems to be a general feeling among many that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has struggled to find its place since the end of the Infinity Saga, which ended with Spider-Man: Far From Home. While some films and series in Phase 4 and beyond have been good enough on their own, others have struggled, and it’s mainly the sequels to popular franchises from earlier phases that seem to have struggled the most. We are about to release another great sequel, and I sure hope it will be as strong as the previous films: guardians of the galaxy vol. 3.
Avengers ending was designed to end many of the stories told by the first three phases of the MCU. That’s why so many fans were excited about it. How would the story end? Who will live? Who will die? How this chapter in the franchise would end was the question that drove record box office numbers. I was definitely one of those people, but with guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 We’re going to see another big finale in the MCU, and it’s one I might be more excited about than I am. Game over.
Guardians of the Galaxy was a fun movie with serious themes
The first Guardians of the Galaxy The movie was one that surprised many people. It was the story of a collection of characters that even many Marvel Comics fans didn’t like much. There was a strong sense that the movie-going public wouldn’t care and that the movie might bomb and yet Guardians of the Galaxy it was an absolute monster hit.
I was one of those people who didn’t know much about who Guardians of the Galaxy was until I saw the movie, but I was blown away. It had an incredible cast of unique characters and genuine humor, but more importantly, it had a heart that most MCUs honestly lacked, even until now.
Each of the Guardians of the Galaxy is a different character. They have motivations, wants and needs. The story isn’t about aliens chasing a MacGuffin, but about a team of people, each with real trauma, learning to trust each other and becoming a better person for it.

I confess, my love for guardians of the galaxy vol. 2 it’s very personal, each film is an interaction between the art and the viewer. The place we occupy in our lives always has, and should have, an impact on how we watch a movie. It was a film about children and their relationship with their parents, and I saw it for the first time a few days before I became one.
Before I had kids, my wife was my go-to for screenings, but guardians of the galaxy vol. 2 it was the last film we had seen together in a cinema for a long time. There was a chance, however small, that we wouldn’t finish the film because she might have given birth in the middle. That didn’t happen, so I sat down and watched this movie about parenting, seeing these complicated at best, toxic at worst relationships between parents and children.
guardians of the galaxy vol. 2 It was also a great sequel, in a way that many other Marvel films have not been. One of the reasons Marvel sequels tend to fail is because all of the character development happens in the first film. Once they become heroes, the emotional journey is over. But here, the events of the first film inform decisions about the sequel. The journey isn’t over and it won’t be until the final film.
Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of the storyline, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the culmination of the character arcs
I was as excited as anyone to see Avengers ending. The MCU was an incredible feat of cinematic storytelling, taking a decade and two dozen films to tell a massive story, and it all came to a head in one final showdown. And for the most part, people are very happy with what they’ve gotten; I certainly am. If you watch the Marvel movies in order, you get a great story, but you don’t get a lot of great story arcs. All the characters served the plot, and what mattered was how it worked out.
I know almost nothing about the plot of guardians of the galaxy vol. 3. I’m confident it will be okay, but I’m also confident that the storyline is designed to serve the character arcs, not the other way around.
I don’t care where Rocket and Star-Lord ends up being intriguing. It’s not about whether Guardians live or die, continue as heroes, or progress in any way. It’s about where I am emotionally when the movie ends.

And, of course, it is impossible to talk about the fact that guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 it almost arrived not to mention it almost wasn’t. At one point, this was the movie that would kick off Phase Four of the MCU, and then we wondered if we’d see it all.
There is no other film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where this would have happened. If something crazy happened and the Russo brothers ended their relationship with Marvel after their breakup Avengers: Infinity Warit’s not like Game over it wasn’t going to happen. Marvel has reportedly found someone else to take over, but with Guardians of the GalaxyYou can’t do that, because these aren’t Marvel movies, first of all, they’re James Gunn movies.
When I first heard that James Gunn had been fired from Marvel, my knee-jerk reaction was to wonder flight. 3. Would the movie ever take place? Would someone else have directed James Gunn’s script? Would anyone else be willing and interested in coming along and writing their own ending? None of these things seemed to satisfy in the slightest.
Eventually, James Gunn would be rehired, and we would later learn that there was never any chance of anyone replacing James Gunn, nor of guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 it’s not happening. But for a long time these were big questions and they were important to me. No other version of guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 might do justice to the story so far, but written and directed by Gunn himself.
guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 This promises to be the end of a story, one I’ve been waiting for almost a decade. I feel a connection to these characters in a way that I don’t feel to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, it won’t be Marvel’s biggest hit. It won’t have the most epic fight scenes, but if there’s an emotionally satisfying conclusion, that’s fine by me.
