Disney+ has quietly canceled another legacy series after Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

Disney+ has produced a significant amount of content since its launch in 2019. Many of its titles are linked to the most important House of Mouse IPs, including Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars The franchise shows have had varying levels of success, with some seeing great buzz and others seemingly not achieving as much success. The Mighty Ducks: The Revolutionaries would undoubtedly fall into the latter category, for a short time cancelled, plus another fan-favorite show after two seasons. Now, a few months later, the streamer has quietly launched another legacy series: National Treasure: Edge of History.

The young adult show, which follows the films directed by Nicolas Cage, only aired for one season before the streaming service was taken offline, as reported. Variety . No specific reasons have been provided for the decision, as the company has not provided any comments on the matter, as of this writing. And since the platform doesn’t publish its viewing metrics, it’s hard to speculate how much that programming move affected it.

National Treasure: Edge of History the casting was made up of emerging talents such as Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed and Antonio Cipriano and also heavy hit star Catherine Zeta-Jones . The series centers on Jess Valenzuela de Olivera, who gathers a group of friends and goes in search of treasure that may be related to his father. A few franchise veterans also appeared along the way, with Harvey Keitel, Justin Bartha, and Armando Riesco reprising their roles as Peter Sadusky, Riley Poole, and Agent Hendricks, respectively. Jones’ Disney+ spin-off has received mixed reviews when it released in December 2022, with some critics saying it didn’t reach the heights of the previous films.

This small screen offers and The Mighty Ducks: The Revolutionaries I’m not the only show to have received the hatchet in recent months. The cancellation of the mystery adventure show. The Mysterious Benedictine Society It was confirmed in January. Also, when Duckshas disappeared, it has also been revealed that the drama series directed by John Stamos big hat suffered the same fate. And about a month later, we learned that the streamer had wrapped up the Willow fantasy series. However, creator Jonathan Kasdan objected to the use of the term “cancellation” and later explained that the drama was on hiatus.

From what we know now, edge of historyThe fate of is more definitive, though the same can’t be said for the franchise as a whole. For years there were rumors of a third chapter of the film saga starring Nicolas Cage. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer provided a late 2022 update, stating that work on all three proposed sequels is “ongoing.” Also, in January, Justin Bartha said that there are currently several scripts on the table. However, the OG series said a third film was delayed because director/producer Jon Turteltaub was taking his time picking the right script.

Fans of the franchise will just have to wait and see if such a film comes to fruition or if the producers ever attempt to expand the IP with another TV company. Personally, I’d be surprised if any of these theoretical projects come to fruition, but more surprising things have happened. Until then, though, this beloved property appears to be, well, history.
