“Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire”: an illustrated album will accompany the premiere of Canet’s film

The new cinematographic adventure of the irreducible Frenchman arrives in an illustrated album. Discover the cover of this book, which is scheduled for release in February 2023.

the output ofAsterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, Guillaume Canet’s blockbuster, will be accompanied by an illustrated album designed by Fabrice Tarrin and written by Olivier Gay. Printed in more than 150,000 copies in France, this album will be released on February 8, 2023, a week after the new film.

“A chariot arrives in the Gallic village with Princess Fu Yi, the only daughter of Emperor Han Xuandi, who came to ask for help after the malicious Prince Deng Tsin Qin’s coup d’état overthrew the empress. The reputation of the irreducible Gauls is known all the time. on the way to Shanghai…”, says the synopsis of the album, revealed by The Figaro.

Fabrice Tarrin explained daily that he drew the album without referring to the images from the film: “When I was offered to transpose the film’s script to make an illustrated album, I immediately chose to ignore the images from Guillaume Canet’s feature film. It was an exercise difficult, but I wanted to remain faithful to the graphic codes of Albert Uderzo’s drawing.”

It is expected in theaters on February 1, 2023. Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom it is not inspired by any pre-existing comics, unlike the previous films of the signed license Alain Shabat Where Thomas Langman. This unpublished story was written by Philippe Mechelen and Julien Hervé, the creators of Tucheswith Guillaume Canet.

Guillaume Canet, who plays Asterix, has gathered an impressive cast around him: Gilles Lellouche (Obelix), Vincent Cassel (César), Marion Cotillard (Cléopâtre), Angèle (Falbala), Jérôme Commandeur (Abraracourcix), Pierre Richard (Panoramix ) and Philippe Katerine (Assurancetourix).

Jonathan Cohen, José García, Franck Gastambide, Ramzy Bedia, the soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the youtubers McFly and Carlito and the rapper Orelsan complete the credits. Matthieu Chedid, who signs the soundtrack, also plays a role. A first trailer was released online on Sunday.
