Amid a litigation divorce proceedings with ex Kim Kardashian, Kanye West hired her sixth divorce lawyer. It comes after West’s former attorney Samantha Spector pulled out of the case, citing an “irreconcilable rift in the attorney-client relationship.” West appears to be struggling to maintain legal representation, preventing the divorce from being resolved. However, the rapper has apparently signed on to heavyweight, so this could be a sign that the former couple is close to finalizing their separation.
According to TMZWest has hired Robert Stephan Cohen of Cohen Clair Lans Greifer Thorpe & Rottenstreich LLP to represent him in ongoing legal proceedings with Kardashian. Cohen also represented Melinda Gates in her multimillion-dollar divorce from tech billionaire Bill Gates. Cohen is based in New York, so West also retained Nicholas A. Salick of the Salick Family Law Group, APLC, to represent him in California.
Kardashian officially filed for divorce from the rapper in February 2021, in an attempt to end her 6-year marriage to West. According to documents filed by Kardashian, the couple were declared legally single in December, despite West’s refusal. From 2021 the Famous The singer had a group of lawyers he hired and fired during the divorce process, so Cohen and Salick may not stay long.
The former couple still has various aspects of the divorce to resolve, but a prenup is in place to resolve the financial aspects of their separation. However, West’s former legal team had already filed motions to cancel the prenup, a move that Kardashian said was a ploy to drag the legal proceedings. Additionally, the divorce will most likely resolve a custody agreement for their four children, North (9), Saint (6), Chicago (4) and Psalm (3).
During this trial, West took to social media to express his displeasure over the current deal between him and the reality TV star when it comes to their children. He specifically expressed his anger at Kardashian’s relationship with SNL alum Pete Davidson, despite having a short-lived relationship with Julia Fox earlier this year. He also talked about not tolerating her daughter North’s presence on social media and accused Kardashian of testing her for drugs. In court proceedings, Kardashian cited Ye’s social media posts as a source of “emotional distress.”
Since then, the two seem to be making an effort to be better parents together, so that they can maintain a stable environment for their children. However, West’s use of social media and continued pushback against divorce in general led to a rocky separation. Their two-day divorce process begins on December 14, so we’ll have to see if tycoon Yeezy will stand up to his new legal team until then.
This legal team update is the latest on the Kanye West and Kim Kardashian divorce drama, but it likely won’t be the last as we head into December. I’m sure the reality star will tell her version of her story this season of the Kardashians, streaming of new episodes for Hulu subscribers every Thursday.
