“At the moment, the health system is not affected by this heat wave,” Health Minister Aurélien Rousseau said on BFMTV-RMC on Monday. While fifty departments are on orange alert due to a heat wave, health services could experience an influx of patients.
“The health system is solid and the hospital will manage,” says Aurélien Rousseau.
“Extremely tense” situation
However, the minister acknowledges this, without “denying”, “the situation in the hospital is extremely tense.” In the country, of 680 emergency services, forty are partially closed, like the one in Saint-Tropez. “There is an organization that makes it possible to take care of the vital risks of all our fellow citizens in the territory”, insists Aurélien Rousseau.
“The reality is that in the country they take care of us if we are sick,” he says.
According to the Minister, cooperation between general practitioners and hospitals has been better since the summer of 2022. The Samu regulation centers have the task, throughout the territory, of prioritizing calls and referring patients to medicine from the city or to the hospital according to the needs and the places available in each of the establishments.
