“Don’t use deodorants anymore, use nuud.” This is the slogan that appears on the website of the company Nuud, which offers a deodorant in the form of a gel to apply to the skin. Also on the same site, the product is listed as “temporarily unavailable,” and the manufacturer is working “on a new formula.”
The National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) effectively announced on Wednesday, September 6, that Nuud deodorant had been withdrawn from the French market “due to the painful cysts that have occurred in people” who have used it. .
“We have carried out investigations”, indicates the ANSM before adding that these “have shown that the galenic form of this deodorant, mainly fat, could be responsible for this undesirable effect”.
A new deodorant formula in preparation
The ointment applied to the skin “would favor the obstruction of the pores of the armpits with the possibility of microbial superinfection, due to an occlusive effect”, according to the health authority, which specifies that “in the majority of the declared cases, the cysts have disappeared after suspending the use of the product or taking the prescribed treatments”.
Consequence of the withdrawal of Nuud products: the latter are shown as out of stock on the commercial site and their marketing at points of sale has been interrupted. Only the soap of the brand is available for sale.
In addition, the ANSM notes that the ingredients contained in Nuud deodorant “are not individually considered the cause of the reported adverse effects.” In a press release dated August 16 and published on Wednesday, September 6, the manufacturer Nuud made it known that the new formula of its deodorant “will be available very soon.”
