Only surgical emergencies will be attended to at least until Wednesday, with “the decision to resume activity” not being made until October 11, according to the establishment.
A “serious adverse event”
An investigation is underway to “analyze the situation and verify that all medical and surgical organizations are in full compliance with facility standards” to ensure safe care.
The Remiremont hospital center “immediately informed the ARS of the death that occurred on October 3 and immediately declared a serious adverse event according to the regulatory alert procedure,” said the ARS Grand Est. It adds that “the elements of the medical record (of the patient deceased, ed) are currently being analyzed by ARS medical inspectors.
The hospital has been the subject of 12 complaints filed by relatives of patients since 2022. At least seven of them were filed by families following the death of patients considered suspicious by their loved ones.
As a result of these various complaints, “the ARS had already initiated, as of January 2, 2023, a medical-administrative inspection specifically responsible for examining each identified case.”
The agency indicates that “ARS inspectors’ provisional observations were shared at the establishment in September.” The hospital now has “a period of time” to “formulate its response to the inspectors’ observations and provide any useful clarification.”
The association “AJC for them”, which wants to help and “unite the families” of the patients who died at the Remiremont hospital, will call a press conference on Monday to “communicate about the slowness of justice” following these complaints filed and ” questioning” the Ministers of Health and Justice “about the seriousness of such dysfunctions within the public hospital.” This press conference had been scheduled before this new event.
