As indicated this Friday morning by the local media Vosges-morning, the 78-year-old victim, originally from Épinal, underwent surgery for a fracture that occurred after a fall a few days before. Her death would be linked to problems in the treatment when leaving the operating room, explains the regional newspaper.
The Remiremont hospital center “immediately informed ARS of the death that occurred on October 3 and immediately made a serious adverse event declaration according to the regulatory alert procedure,” ARS Grand Est said in a press release.
He adds that “the elements of the medical record (of the deceased patient, ed.) are currently being analyzed by ARS medical inspectors.”
• Suspension and investigation
Following the announcement of this new death, the scheduled surgical activity was temporarily suspended until October 11. In total, 80 operations have been canceled and only emergency operations will be carried out.
“After the unexpected death of a patient at the Remiremont Hospital Center in surgery, and due to the general context, particularly in terms of complaints, it was decided, as a precautionary measure, to suspend all scheduled surgical activity,” the establishment said in a statement. of press. release.
An investigation is underway to “analyze the situation and verify that all medical and surgical organizations are in full compliance with facility standards” to ensure safe care.
“The management has decided to ask all surgeons to justify that the imposed surgical protocols are perfectly respected,” the establishment’s lawyer, Mr. Fréderic Berna, told BFMTV.
• 12 complaints have already been filed
The hospital is already the subject of 12 complaints filed by relatives of patients since 2022. At least seven of them were filed by families following the death of patients considered suspicious by their loved ones.
As a result of these various complaints, “the ARS had already initiated, as of January 2, 2023, a medical-administrative inspection specifically responsible for examining each identified case.”
Among the plaintiffs is Camille, a young mother who almost died a few weeks after giving birth. “She was in septic shock,” she recalled to our network.
“The placenta was rotting inside my body, it had been rotting inside me for seven weeks. There were five in my hospital room, there was not one of the five to reach the other,” he adds.
