Rendez-vous charitatif and populaire inoxydable, the 37e édition du Téléthon will be released from 8 to 9 December for 30 hours of direct on the public television chains and expect faire mieux qu’en 2022 malgré l’inflation and des budgets serrés pour the families.
Sponsored by singer Vianney and presented by Sophie Davant, Nagui and Cyril Féraud, this televised marathon will begin on Friday afternoon and end overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
In addition to collections on the ground, pledges of donations by telephone (3637), online (téléthon.fr), a game marathon and a raffle are on the menu. In particular, you will win a kit autographed by the footballer Kylian Mbappé.
Improve despite inflation
The 2022 edition, which was back in full force after two years of the Covid pandemic, raised €90.8 million, the best result since 2016, despite the stagnation of French donations to associations for the first time in ten years.
The organizing association, AFM-Téléthon, has dedicated around €58 million to the research and development of new therapies in 2022.
“If the Telethon is not going to achieve everything on its own, it will have a leverage effect,” underlines the president of the AFM-Téléthon, Laurence Tiennot-Herment.
While 95% of rare diseases remain untreated or even diagnosed, research still needs funding. Among families, “impatience is even stronger than 15 or 20 years ago, because the first victories are there and have accelerated a lot since 2018-2019,” declares Laurence Tiennot-Herment.
Beyond the research questions, the Telethon remains a unique event. It mobilizes more than 200,000 volunteers and is available in more than 10,000 municipalities, with a series of unusual challenges: showbiz of several hundred people in Tonnerre (Yonne), pool marathon in 12 hours in La Guerche-de-Bretagne (Ille – et-Villaine), etc.
“Faster, higher, stronger”: the Olympic motto also applies to the Telethon, which this edition will make several nods to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
