This new edition is sponsored this year by the singer Vianney for the year 2023.
Better than in 2022 despite inflation
The AFM-Téléthon, which brings together patients and parents of patients, aims to surpass the figure of the 2022 edition, which with 90.8 million euros – the best result since 2016 – returned to full performance after two years of pandemic. Covid.
In addition to collections on the ground, pledges of donations by telephone (3637), online (téléthon.fr), a game marathon and a raffle are on the menu.
Exceeding the amount collected last year will be difficult, due to the economic context of inflation and tight budgets for many families.
58 million euros for research in 2022
The AFM (French Association against Myopathies) has dedicated around 58 million euros in 2022 to the research and development of new therapies. The Telethon product is especially aimed at rare diseases, 95% of which remain untreated or even diagnosed.
Beyond the research questions, the Telethon remains a unique event. It mobilizes more than 200,000 volunteers and is available in more than 10,000 municipalities.
Many cities will mobilize, with various events (sports, music, etc.) and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as common themes, including Mourad Merzouki’s Dance of the Games.
