In its latest Public Health bulletin, France reports “a slight increase” in Covid activity a few days before Christmas. To “have a good holiday” and prevent “hospitals from being overwhelmed this winter”, the Minister of Health, Aurélien Rousseau, called this Wednesday, December 13, for “a rebound in vaccination” against Covid. But also against the flu.
“Il faut un rebond de la vaccination. On a franchi les 10 millions sur la flu, on a franchi les 5 millions sur le Covid. On est toujours en avance par rapport aux chiffres de l’an dernier sur le Covid, il faut qu ‘on rattrape a peu sur la grippe. And c’est le bon moment pour le faire,’ at-il dit lors d’un déplacement dans une pharmacie du XIXe arrondissement de Paris avec Agnès Firmin Le Bodo, minister déléguée aux Professions de health .
“Prevention is what guarantees that we will have a good holiday. And not only us, but also the hospital caregivers, it is one of our obsessions. We have the tools so that the hosts do not feel overwhelmed this winter,” added Aurélien Rousseau to the press.
“We would all be calmer”
Asked if the French are fed up with the idea of getting vaccinated again, the minister considered that “perhaps there is a trivialization effect, because we have learned to live with the flu and Covid. But we all have people around us who get infected.” “. “Covid, and for whom it is difficult.”
“And I think especially of those who are going to meet their parents, their grandparents at Christmas: we would all be calmer if all these little people around the tree were vaccinated,” said the Minister of Health and Prevention.
And to get vaccinated, “it’s super easy: all pharmacies, nurses, doctors can do it, the doses are there,” he insisted.
In the case of bronchiolitis, “we have a less strong epidemic curve than in other countries,” said the minister.
One of the doubts is the effect that a new preventive treatment will have against the main virus that causes bronchiolitis, Beyfortus (Sanofi).
“At Beyfortus, we are fighting to have the doses (…) We have impressive adherence rates to this vaccination, 60% (…) This should contribute to having a less degraded situation than last year,” according to Aurélien Rousseau.
