Almost fifty Belgian children and a dozen adults vomited during the night of Monday, January 15 to Tuesday, January 16 in Saint-Nicolas-La-Chapelle, in Savoy, as BFMTV learned from ARS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, confirming information from France Bleu.
“The ARS is currently investigating a probable situation of collective toxic infection in a group of Belgian children, currently staying in a holiday center in Savoy,” the regional health agency said.
Two children and one adult briefly hospitalized
According to our colleagues at France Bleu, the group of children and their companions, from Charleroi (Belgium), were participating in a snow class.
“In this group made up of 225 people […] 47 children and 10 adults presented vomiting,” specifies the ARS, “among them, 2 children and 1 adult were hospitalized due to dehydration.”
The regional health agency specifies that these same people “have already left the hospital” and that their health status is not worrying.
Analysis in progress
If all the participants continue their stay in France, the ARS specifies that investigations are currently being carried out in collaboration with the departmental directorate for the protection of the population.
“Tomorrow the DDPP will take samples of the different foods and dishes consumed by the group” and “the ARS environmental health service is also carrying out a control of the drinking water network distributed in the accommodation”, specifically in the center of the balconies of Mont-Blanco.
“The results of the different analyzes will be known in the coming days,” concludes the regional health agency.
Questioned by France Bleu, the president of the company that manages the accommodation center indicates that he “will assume responsibility” if the poisoning comes from his establishment.
