One in two workers are bothered by noise and noise pollution when they work. This is the main lesson of the Ifop-JNA barometer published on Tuesday and broadcast by our colleagues from France Bleu.
According to this survey, 51% of French people are ashamed. A relatively stable figure compared to 2017 (52%), but lower than 2019, when 59% of workers surveyed said they were bothered by noise pollution in their workplace.
It is the commerce sector (which includes car repair, transport, storage, accommodation and restaurants) the most affected, ahead of agriculture, industry and construction, then services and administrations. By profession, workers are the most affected, with 65%.
Effects on the work environment
The survey also analyzes the impact of teleworking, which has been increasing since the appearance of Covid-19 and the multiple confinements. According to the barometer, 64% of French workers never work remotely, while 36% telecommute “at least from time to time”.
Half of these telecommuters (53%) say they “regret coming to work on site due to noise and noise pollution.”
Especially since this nuisance of noise weighs more and more on the work environment: it is
considered responsible for misunderstandings with management (by 48% of respondents), tensions within teams (by 41%) and aggressiveness in exchanges (by 45%).
The survey was carried out with a sample of 1,118 people, representative of the French workforce aged 18 or over. The representativeness of the sample was ensured by the quota method (sex, age, profession of the respondent, sector of activity) after stratification by region and agglomeration category.
The interviews were conducted through a self-administered online questionnaire from September 13 to 16, 2022.
