Vaccination: 25% of children in daycare centers are not up to date

A survey conducted by an association of early childhood professionals reveals that 25% of daycare children are not up to date with their vaccines.

Diphtheria, tetanus, polio… Are young children sufficiently vaccinated? The National Association of Nursing Students and Graduates (ANPDE) sounds the alarm with the publication of a survey released this Monday, June 3. According to this study, 25% of children in daycare are not up to date with their vaccines.

The ANPDE explains in a statement that it was based on the analysis of some 6,737 health records of children distributed in 575 reception structures.

The first reason given by parents to explain the lack of vaccination was an illness that delayed the injection. Then comes abandonment, difficulty of access and finally refusal to allow your child to be vaccinated.

Lack of time for child care workers.

To explain this situation, the association points out the “lack of time allocated to the missions of representatives of Health and Inclusive Care (RSAI),” a position that is generally occupied in daycare centers by a childcare worker.

The RSAI must “guarantee good vaccination coverage for children in daycare centers for the collective interest, as well as carry out health promotion and prevention actions,” but “the time allocated does not always allow them to guarantee rigorous monitoring.” of vaccination”. schedule,” says the ANPDE.

In fact, child care professionals tend to prioritize “urgent issues, such as alerts from families and professionals about a deficit in child development or even individualized care protocols (asthma, allergies, chronic pathologies, etc.)” , according to the association.

Let us remember that 11 vaccines are now mandatory for children born on or after January 1, 2018: against diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, Haemophilus influenzae b infection, hepatitis B, meningococcus C, pneumococcus, measles, mumps and rubella.
