Surprising numbers as the Olympic Games approach and the arrival of tens of thousands of visitors. Since May 1, 500 imported cases of dengue have been recorded in mainland France, indicates Public Health France (SpF) in a new update published on Tuesday, June 11 on its website.
2,166 since the beginning of the year
According to this same source, among those 500 imported cases, 429 appeared “in the departments where theAedes albopictus (the tiger mosquito, editor’s note) is documented.” Furthermore, among these cases, “63% of the cases (313/500) returned from Guadeloupe or Martinique,” it is known.
Regarding the French regions, SpF highlights that it is the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region that has recorded the highest number of imported cases (82), ahead of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (71) and Ile-de-France. France (61, plus one case of chikungunya).
According to the health authority, since January 1, 2,166 imported cases of dengue have been recorded, 82% of which were contracted in Martinique or Guadeloupe and 5% in Guyana, departments where a major epidemic is occurring.
On the other hand, as of June 11, no episode of indigenous transmission has been reported.
