The management of the University Hospital of Guadalupe (CHUG) announced that it had filed a complaint after new “accusations” this Thursday, denouncing in a press release “degradations” and actions that “hindered the execution of public service missions” of several of its installations. .
“Around fifty people invaded the human resources department of the CHUG, blocked the corridor with a cupboard, cut off the electricity and made it impossible for the agents to fulfill their missions” of this service, explained the CHU leadership.
According to her, “the militants attacked the schools and training institutes of the CHUG, and forced the students to leave the amphitheaters and the trainers to leave their offices.”
Increase in the number of Covid-19 cases
The CHU leadership pointed the finger at the members of the “collective of organizations in struggle”, which since July 2021 has been campaigning against the obligation to vaccinate against Covid-19 for nursing staff. Gaby Clavier, a trade unionist affiliated with the health branch of the General Union of Workers of Guadeloupe (UGTG), explained during a press conference at the site that this mobilization aimed to “demand the reinsertion, rehabilitation and compensation of those suspended”.
Many clashes occurred at the CHU at the height of the Covid crisis in Guadeloupe. They were also the starting point of the urban violence that paralyzed the island for several weeks in November 2021.
In an attempt to ease tensions, the government has offered those suspended in Guadeloupe longer contract terminations, as well as a more flexible early retirement scheme, Joël Mathurin, chief of staff to the Minister Delegate for Overseas Territories, said in mid-October. . . These proposals were rejected by the collective.
According to an epidemiological bulletin from the Caribbean island published in the middle of the week, the number of Covid-19 cases – which had been falling for weeks – experienced a sharp increase from 290 to 415 in one week.
