The crisis in hospitals and health establishments intensifies in France. After the implementation of the white plan at the Rouen University Hospital, it was the New Aquitaine ARS that decided on Friday to activate this measure in all Gironde establishments.
The decision follows “the context of prolonged difficulties and tensions in various emergency services in the department, which now affect the SMUR and SAMU-Center 15 regulation activities,” justifies the Regional Health Agency.
And for good reason: for many weeks, the pediatric emergency waiting room at Bordeaux University Hospital has been full. In the midst of the bronchiolitis epidemic, there is a relentless parade of patients… and a shortage of nursing staff makes treatment difficult.
It’s not the fault of bronchiolitis
“There is little nursing staff in the market, it is cyclical. And the attractiveness of the hospital is not good. It is not because there is bronchiolitis,” explains Olivier Brissaud, head of the pediatric intensive care unit, to the microphone of BFMTV.
“The state of the public hospital is very bad and there is a recurring lack of staff in the services,” he laments.
In May, the situation at the Bordeaux University Hospital had been such that the emergencies had been closed to the public. Only serious cases, referred by Samu, were admitted.
This new level 2 white plan allows establishments to take measures to withdraw staff and thus ensure patient care, explains the Regional Health Agency. The ARS will reassess the situation every week, in consultation with the establishments in the territory, in order to determine if it is necessary to expand the white plan.
