Towards a way out of the crisis in pediatric emergency services? The Minister of Health, François Braun, will receive pediatric professionals on Wednesday to work on the future of this sector, in crisis, due to unsatisfactory working conditions and lack of personnel.
“I see myself tomorrow with all the pediatric professionals to work with them on this reform not only of the hospital as a whole, but also of this sector of children’s health,” the minister said on Tuesday during a meeting with a press point. , after a visit to the Necker-Enfants Malades hospital in Paris.
In the spring “a great plan” will be proposed for the future of this sector, he added.
“Immediate Action Plan”
Pediatric emergency services are currently mired in a crisis linked to unsatisfactory working conditions and lack of staff. In this context, they face an early epidemic of bronchiolitis, a respiratory disease that affects babies and sometimes leads them to hospital.
This situation has led to the saturation of pediatric resuscitation services in Ile-de-France hospitals, which organize patient transfers.
“We are today at 31 children transported out of the Ile-de-France region”, at the height of the “peak” of the bronchiolitis epidemic, the minister said.
The families of these transferred children will be “cared for”, as was done during the transfer of Covid patients in the midst of a health crisis, he specified.
On October 22, a group of 7,000 pediatric caregivers sent an open letter to Emmanuel Macron deploring inadequate care and working conditions, the result of “irresponsible political inaction.”
The government responded by announcing an “immediate action plan” and releasing 150 million euros for “hospital services under pressure”. It has not yet specified how much of the envelope will be allocated to pediatric services.
“Inappropriate” and “cynical” measures according to the Pédiatrie collective, which wants to go to the Elysee on Wednesday to deliver a letter to the Head of State.
