The current wave of Covid in France, ongoing since the beginning of September, is declining in both infections and hospitalizations, according to figures published this Thursday by the health authorities.
Last week, “the slowdown in circulation (of the coronavirus) continued with rates of new hospitalizations and a number of deaths declining,” the French public health agency summarized in its weekly report.
Started at the beginning of September and favored by the context of the start of the school year, the current wave of Covid has subsided since the end of October, first with a decrease in infections and now in hospitalizations.
According to the most up -to -date figures, 42,025 contamination were recorded on Thursday. As for hospitalizations, they added 18,972.
The importance of barrier gestures
Even with this pause, the circulation of the virus “is still very active”, warns the public health agency, however, it encourages people at risk, older than 60 years in particular, to carry out their booster vaccination.
In addition, “barrier gestures, in particular the use of a mask, remain necessary to protect the elderly or at risk of complications”, insists Public Health France.
As such, the use of a mask in closed places was also recommended this week by the Academy of Medicine, the body that is supposed to lead the medical consensus in France.
The Academy, which does not consider the mandatory nature of the mask necessary, stresses that beyond Covid, the health context is especially tense with a strong epidemic of bronchiolitis, in infants, and on the horizon, the arrival of seasonal flu.
It recommends FFP2 mask for the elderly or carriers of comorbidities, the environment and caregivers of vulnerable people, pregnant women, and a surgical mask in hospitals, care centers, pharmacies and in closed spaces such as transport in busy periods.
