Trojan merchants mobilize to fight breast cancer. The Vitrines de Troyes la Champagne association thus broke its donation record on the occasion of Pink October. For four years he has organized auctions to raise funds for research.
The 50,000 euro mark was reached, during the previous edition, in the fall of 2023. On Thursday, October 17, 2024, the record fell. The double was obtained by the association. Questioned by Le Parisien, Alexandre Mélin, president of Vitrines de Troyes la Champagne, still cannot believe it.
“Objectively, I told myself that 60,000 or 70,000 euros would be simply incredible, but 100,000 euros… it’s like a dream!”, rejoices the president of Vitrines de Troyes la Champagne, in the columns of Le Parisien.
The 100,000 euros raised are used to purchase new equipment for the Troyes hospital. Thus, two new next-generation devices will allow chemotherapy and biopsies to be performed. Alexandre Mélin insists: “It is for our territory, our mothers, our girlfriends, our wives, our aunts, our grandmothers…”
Many exceptional lots
To raise such a sum, the merchants did everything possible. The auction allowed the curious to treat themselves to numerous exceptional lots. One of them broke all records and was sold for 10,000 euros. It was an “all-inclusive weekend in Manchester with shopping, a downtown tour and a VIP derby between football clubs Manchester United and Manchester City.”
Another lot that caught the attention of bidders: an official suitcase of the French Olympic team that contained inside a complete set of clothing worn by French athletes during the Olympic Games. To be able to afford it, the lucky person had to pay the considerable sum of 8,600 euros.
In addition, other lots were purchased for several thousand euros, such as an exceptional weekend at the future second Nigloland hotel, a dinner with the two-star chef from Reims, Philippe Mille, and a shirt of former footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic that he wore at the AC Milan. .
In five participations in the Pink October operation, the Troyes la Champagne Showcases have raised more than 235,000 euros for breast cancer research. The association does not want to stop there and is already cherishing the dream of breaking its record next year.
