Faced with the “serious health threat posed by the monkeypox virus,” the government is strengthening its vaccination system. In a decree published in the Official Gazette on October 23, discovered by The Pharmacist’s Daily, the government opens the possibility for all pharmacies to offer vaccination against mpox (formerly monkeypox).
Until now only a limited experiment had been carried out in a few pharmacies. As of August 2022, there are only five in the entire French territory. From now on, all pharmacies will be able to ask regional health agencies to register in the circuit, but the agencies will be able to offer this right or reject it.
Several criteria must be met: “present a geographical interest in the coverage of the territorial network”, be close to the populations “targeted for vaccination”, have a daily vaccination capacity and have an appointment system “effective and visible to the older ones.” number of patients.”
Specific populations
We recall that the High Health Authority has updated its vaccination recommendations in the face of the new wave of the epidemic, accentuated by the circulation of the 1-B variant almost exclusively in Africa, whose case was also detected in Germany this past week.
Therefore, target groups are eligible for vaccination, in particular men who have homosexual relationships, sex workers, men or women, and anyone who works in places dedicated to sexual encounters. So far, according to Santé Publique France, 143 cases of mpox have been identified on French soil, none of which are of concern to the WHO.
