The sanction falls for four companies. This Friday, February 14, the National Medicines Security Agency (ANSM) announces to take measures against companies that illegally promote what is presented as allegedly effective and undesirable effects against cancer.
Societies are accused by the health authority of presenting “to instill their treatment as an effective solution against cancer”, and also highlights alleged advantages for patients.
The “treatment” in question is dendritic cell therapy (TCD). He sold 18,950 euros to volunteers for one of the companies involved. In grossness, this process would consist of extracting immune cells from the body to increase them before reinjecting them in the body with the objective attacked by cancer cells.
There is no authorization in France or other places in Europe
The ANSM does not presume the effective or not of such therapy in its press release. She points out that companies have escaped all regulatory limitations that are supposed to measure the efficiency and safety of treatments offered to patients. Therefore, these medications are not subject to a marketing authorization. Neither in France nor in Europe.
“Dendritic cell therapy used in cancer treatment responds to drug definition, but has not been the subject of a marketing authorization (…), therefore, we make health decisions to the company in question, in Particular to suspend the illegal promotion of this therapy, “writes the agency.
Health authorities are concerned that these doubtful alternatives will distance the patients from the treatments that “were demonstrated.” The tests are in progress to judge all aspects (efficiency, security) of TCD.
“We reserve the right to seize the prosecutor”
At the moment, the “sanction” presented by the Health Police is the suspension of the promotion of therapies by the companies, “until the fulfillment of the regulations applicable to it.”
But other actions could continue. Research is still underway in relation to other European health agencies. The ANSM also indicates “to reserve the right to seize the prosecutor” and threatens companies with a Pharos report.
A message is also sent to people who use these “treatments.” It is recommended to contact your oncologist to detail the treatments taken and the acts practiced, and to point out all possible adverse effects.
