Are the most toxic silicone breast implants than we thought? This is what a study by an interdisciplinary team of chemicals, biologists and doctors of the Mulhouse Mulhouse Institute and published in the Biomaterials magazine. If the question of the danger of this type of implant regularly returns to the debates, the conclusions of this research completely question its toxicity.
Officially, the health authorities ensure that these silicone implants, used since the 1960s, are safe. However, they could, according to different studies, be linked to complications and cause “autoimmune diseases”, as well as “chronic inflammatory reactions,” recalls the study, also published on the CNRS website.
“Immune response”
In fact, French researchers have managed to demonstrate that silicone breast implants release solid microparticles in the body, which actually arouse an “immune response” and “the activation of several genes associated with auto-inmune.”
And this, even without visible breakdown of the implant. Among these pathologies, “rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or certain chronic inflammations.”
Scientists “have found that, even without a detectable leak, the simple presence of silicone in the tissues triggers an activation of the immune system.”
The study concludes on the need to “review the design and medical monitoring” of these silicone breast implants, which, therefore, would have long -term effects on the patient’s immune system and those called to reassess the clinical studies that They had been made until ‘here in the’ risks of such implants.
